yes in radiant you can edit your prefererences wait i will take a pic of mine ....the best to work i think
you will fint that menu in edit>preferences

look mouse i setted it to 3 buttons

So should I pretty much mark everything you have marked and then it will work? or should I leave some stuff out.

There is a reason the screen uses the word "preferences" as part of its name!

yes you can follow my preferences nothing will disappear

at starting you ll see the textures loading in a small window then type 't' twice to make it disappear

your work environement will be divided in 4 parts one 3d view and three 2d view (one top one side and one front)

its easy to move brush and select etc etc .......you can try if you dont like you can set it as it was before ........

Yep, just click a few options and see what's changed, simple as that. As for your question on combining textures it's the 3-button mouse part you need.

This will be the effect;
