Getting away from the dreaded square!

Post by Rommel »

I am having some trouble getting away from the blasted square shaped buildings. I am adding on decks, patio's, sheds, etc, but I still get the impression that its too 'square'. Granted in the 40's everything was square, but I want the map to look more than block apon block of houses. Any Ideas to give it some life? Thanks.

Screenies up coming later on today.

Make a brush and hit "e". Now move the vertices. Just remember to build on the grid. :)

Yah try to add some diagonal walls. I'd use the clipper.

Height differences on the roads would rock :).

Yeah, Im doing that (The vertices). I think my biggest problem lies with trying to make the map a cut away from the real world, thus getting away from playability. I need to stray away from the super-realism that pervades every map I make. I think I am just trying to prevent a campfest (obj map). So trying to make three or four ways to get to the target is making me rethink how big the streets are, the alleys, the woods, etc. Thanks for the input so far ;)
