Where to buy parts :S

As some of you know, I am currently computerless (i go on the net through the school computers), and have been trying to win stuff off e-bay unsuccessfully for the last 2 weeks or so. Ok, should i continue e-baying, or actually get what i need (motherboard, proccessor + RAM) from a shop (e.g. Dabs.com)?

If you can enlighten me in any way (tell me a good place to buy these things) then please say!

Something that will not lag with LoDterrain on Mohradiant, and can play MoH:AA smoothly on at least minimum graphics (preferably medium)

Not that i know the spec that will do that though...

2200 Mhz, 256 ram, a new 3dcard and some other stuff will be fast enough. Try to look for an AMD athlon, becuase AMD's are better for playing games etc.

But if you want to make it more expensive, u can look for a 3.2 Ghz CPU or something like that

Cool, so on the wish list i now have:

Decent motherboard
2.2 (or more) Ghz AMD
And around 516 RAM....

althlons are great, i don't know if they've come out with this in your country yet but in the US i saw an ad for the only 64-bit processor, made by AMD. i belive it was athlon too. may be running that now (athlon, not 64-bit)

Excualy I mean a AMD Athlon XP 2400+ or higer. the 2400+ is not the Mhz just like the pentium. AMD Atlon 2400+ is almost the same as 2000Mhz. Try 2600+ ( just like 2.2 / 2.4 Ghz)

U can find AMD Athlon's in the Netherlands so I think you can also find those in UK, I'm sure of it

oh wait, no i'm not running Athlon, i've got Pentium 3. o well, still buy an AMD i know that sounds funny from someone who isn't running it but it's a great processor.
XP is good, never seen an ME, but Microsoft is back on track for it's new OS, could be out by next year i heard. so probably be ready to replace it if you want top o' da line.

yo, definitely go to http://www.tigerdirect.com they have the best prices imaginalbe, and yes they got 64-bit systems. u can get made to built really good ones for around 3-400, or build ur own, OR get barebones.

and if they r offering that for ?999, then about ?500 should get u what u want, remember only ADVENT lol

I bought all my pc components from them for way less than Tiger Direct. Keep in mind, the parts you see at tigerdirect.com are not all quality parts. They are a big wholesale/retail outfit and your prices will be inflated. You can get the same parts for about the same price at BestBuy here in the states for what you are paying at tigerdirect.com. On newegg.com They have product reviews by people who have bought the parts individually and are really good prices to boot. Yes, buy AMD. For gaming, it's better on the graphics. AMD is also cheaper than Pentium counterparts. Faster Mhz for les money. Buy at least 512 mb of ram though. 256 is becoming harder to maintain with the bigger programs and games. And video cards are not all created equal. Just because you can find a 256 mb video card for cheap doesn't mean it's better than 128 mb or even some 64 mb cards. It's alot more than that. Check out motherboards.com or tomshardware.com for hardware reviews and specs. There is alot to know in picking out the components for a pc but if you do your homework on these websites, you will get familiar with all the stuff you need to know when purchasing your parts. DON'T BUY COMPAQ or HEWLET PACKARD. BAD CHOICE THERE! You will get more computer for your money by building it yourself. Any questions, keep asking them. Someone will be able to help here!
