Software Company Opening! All users welcomed!

Post by Yarik »

I was thinking of making a software company to run a game which would be based on a free game engine.

Requirements:
Be able to put some time into this project!
You can apply if you have experience in any of the below jobs:

Mapping

Scripting

Programing

Modeling

Sound Creation

Website Hoster

Website Developer

Animation

Concept Artist

Game Engines to choose from:
http://www.ambrosine.com/resource.html

I/we need game Ideas, for what kind game it will be:

FAQ:

Why do you want to do this?
Well, it is because the current MOHAA engine has severe limitations in what you can do. The engines that we plan to use have much of the needed support to make a game....

Will I get paid?
No, this is a joint venture focused on making a "Mod" style game. We are not out for profits...

What engine will be used?
We dont know yet, Help us choose!
http://www.ambrosine.com/resource.html

How long will the project be?
We dont know exactly, it all depends on the coop of the people.

How many people can joing?
No specific number right now, Although my motto is "The more the marrier" So it seems the more people who are willing to help out, the better the game will be.

What is your email?
Yarikcod(at)paris.com

What kind of game will this be, rgp, mmorpg,.....?
Not sure yet, it all depends on the engine we pick
http://www.ambrosine.com/resource.html

Note: Since the engine we pick might be fairly new to you, you will have to take some extra time to learn the basics on how to use it!
Oh almost forgot the company name will be on random
Suggestions. All will be heard!

So what ya think? Remeber this is only a suggestion, nothing is set in stone yet.[/quote]

If you have other engine ideas, do tell!

i can honestly say i'm okay at C programming, and with mapping/scripting i consider myself a good guy. i'm totally interested.

for suggestions, i recommend this email i got....
Most of the better games are developed with 3DS Studio Max. This software costs about $4,000.00 US. What the makers of 3DS Studio Max did though was create another piece of software called gmax.

gmax is a light version of 3DS Studio Max, but it's VERY powerful. gmax is free. You can download it from the 3ds Studio Max web site.

What gmax is is a way to design maps for games that are already out there. For example, Quake III Arena was the first game to work with gmax. They created a game pack for gmax called Tempest. The game pack allows you to use gmax to design extra levels for Quake III Arena.

This extends the life of the game, so it's good for the game companies and it's good for you, because you can learn how to create games.

I would go to a book store and get the gmax Bible book. It's pretty good for learning how to use it, and the latest version of gmax comes on a CD with the book.

The Torque Game Engine is another good piece of software for developing games. Very powerful, and it's only $100.00. Check out their web site: http://www.garagegames.com/pg/product/view.php?id=1

C++ is a must for game development.
i emailed Thormohaa about game development and he responded with this. i personally can't take Torque editors, they aren't quite as nice as say a world builder (see Command and Conquer Generals) or definately a radient. thsoe two are the only ones i've worked with, besides tile editors and text editors....

anyways, try this out....

EDIT: i love rpg, rts, and fps games. i think we have a definate mraket for those.

as well as i am a designer/dungeon master for Dungeons and Dragons so if you wanted to use an rpg i suggest that, i could fill anyone in on rules and such... :) a thought.

hey mad, one thing, try to use the edit button instead of a new post m8, it saves space.

ya, i can see the worst prob being graphic editors. like modellers, they're hard to come by... but valuble as heck when gotten.

Heh Just thought about that... as for storyline... why not work of something already written? With permission of course... you could just take something to use as a base... a short story, so that you can develop your own storyline... Asimov wrote quite a few.

whoa madmapper, kind of jumping ahead. that'd be game designer's job. first we don't even have an engine or programmers, can't do anything without those....
i understand, i've done the exact same thing.
personaly i think Unreal's good, played it a coupla times and it's good, so the engine is solid. i know there's a banner up on the topo of .map that comes up from time to time that has graphics for unreal engine.... look for it and possibly check it out.

If you (Yarik) Havent figured out that I'd love to help by now...

Ill come out and state it! I'd like to help.

I have a little experience with flash and html websites, I can do map planning and possibly mapping, I might be able to plan non human-creature concepts and concept arts. Basicly I'm a jack of all trades, I know how to do it all but Im not wonderful in any of it :D.

well mad, you sound like designer/conecpt artist. which are what we need, but right now remember that we can do nothing without an engine or programming... if anyone has a Borland compiler i'd be happy to program some simple sprite (2d images) games. i have the wrong type for the code i have.
