Chaulk? You mean Caulk? The pink and green square texture? Basically, you build your maps with caulk, then just texture the brushes that show. Saves alot of resources when the system doesn't have to draw faces that aren't showing. Helps speed up the FPS too.

yes thats what i meant, ok ok pick on my spelling, i type fast dont exacly look at each word  .... so if u put caulk in places that arent seen, why dont u just leave those places untextured? Does caulk have any real use or is it just to sped up the framerate?

Is there anyway to make that automatic? so like when i make a brush it automaticly puts caulk instead of that blue and white checkerboard? its gonna be a pain texturing and re texturing each wall!.....

The benefit of using the pink and green (Important! Make sure you're using the right caulk - the wrong one will NOT give you walls/floors/etc!).

The benefit of using caulk(The pink and green one!) is that for every side that does not show, it doesn't have to draw it. i.e. Instead of drawing 6 (think of a box) sides, it only has to draw the ones that show - multipy that by oh 500-600 brushes, and you can see how much faster your map will run, and compile. If you saved just 2 sides that didn't have to be drawn per brush (some will be 4 or 5!) Your talking 1000-1500 LESS things that have to be drawn on the map by your video card.

So for example, if there is a brush that needn't be seen, just texture it caulk and it will appear some kind of white when you use noclip to check it. Caulk sky is also used for something like a foggy winter sky.

You should use the common texture called only "caulk", it will make the side of the brush completly invisible in game, you will actually see through it in game. But that's not a problems since it supposed to be on sides that you never can see!
