Terrain, working and then not working

Post by Sgt KIA »

Im new at mapping but have read some tuts and can add a lod terrain and items and so on.

I have a map im testing. One version has only the terrain and a skybox and it works fine. Another version of it just has minor changes on the terrain image (i replaced the old one by selecting it and then reloaded the new one), and thats all. The image size and the terrain size are the same. However, this newer version doesnt work properly. Once the map is loaded the loading screen stays there and your hands and mouse cursor leave bad trails on the screen. Lights and sun are set like in the previous version.

So im quite :?: whats causing that. Could it be that the minor changes i made caused too many polys or something like that or what. I have also tried the new version from the very beginning but still the same results.

Just for a test put a brick texture on the sky... also make sure to recompile and check for errors :)

Always recompiled...

Managed to copy this from a VIS log file:
************ ERROR ************
LoadPortals: couldn't read C:\Pelit\EAGAME~1\MOHAA\main\maps\dm\2_munas_a.prt
There is no .prt file. It seems all maps with the same error dont have a .prt file.

You've got a leak into the void. I think you may have accidentally deleted your skybox. Or booted your player start into the void.

this causes the prt file not to be writen.

What texture is on the inside of the skybox?

Yes, i noticed. Thanks for the info. I didnt pay attention at it because the prior version has a leak too and it works ok. And since im new, by leak i mean a small part of the terrain comes out of the caulked box. In the gameplay there are no more errors except you can see black line on that edge. Thats why i thought thats not the issue.

As i mentioned i have tried the new terrain with several times by starting it all over and made sure the whole terrain was in the caulked box. Also these turned out to be not working.

I use dday3 sky as the sky texture. It works ok in other test maps.

paths

The base path under file > "Project Settings" has to be correct.

Some of the skies don't work, but mohday2 works every time.

I believe its ok. However if i uninstall radient and then reinstall it, it still has old settings on. Also it lost all textures as well. Perhaps i need to uninstall mohaa too?

Check your settings under project settings as tltrude said. Everything should work with the proper paths set.

...guys for all the help.

Im not sure what the problem is, but i used only the .tga on my second computer. All works fine now, so i must have had bad settings or so.

Id better clear all radient files from my laptop and clear reg entries as well.

Project Settings

Post by panTera »

Getting the basepaths right can be tricky. After installing/unzipping Radiant it loads the 'Default.qe4' file (located in your MohTools- folder). So you need to make sure Radiant starts loading your new project (.qe4) file. Here's what you need to do:

- start Radiant and click OK through the "set basepath" window. Wait till it's loaded and open your map.
- go to "Edit->Preferences" and check the "Load last project on open", "Load last map on open" and also the "qe4 update model" checkboxes, then click OK,
- then go to "File-> New Project" and fill in a name, e.g. "SgtKIA.qe4".
- next go to "File->Project Settings" and fill in the correct paths, click OK,
- close Radiant.

To test the settings start Radiant again:
If for some reason Radiant tries to load the Default.qe4 again, just delete it. When it can't find it, it gives you the option to browse to your own .qe4 file. With the option "Load last project on open" checked your own .qe4-project file will be used the next time to start Radiant.
