Solid "Entity 0" model at ( 0.00 0.00 0.00)

Post by tltrude »

I am having "Entity 0" problems too!

Excerpt from console log:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Going from CS_PRIMED to CS_ACTIVE for tltrude
Called FadeSound with: 0.000000
CL_GetSnapshot: Not all children could find their parents.,
CL_GetSnapshot: entity 0 with parent 0 and model '' at 0.00 0.00 0.00, could not find parent.

model " ?????

I keep copying the skybox and player spawnpoints form one test map to the next and this dumb invisable solid thing keeps showing up in them. My terrain is at -64 Z, so this thing blocks movement--I can duck under it and jump on top of it. It is very tiny and at dead center of the grid. Below, I put a non-solid script_object box in to show its location.

There are no models named (") or otherwise in the map, there is no "Entity 0" in the text of the .map file, and the three player starts all work fine. I assume "Entity 0" is the worldspawn entity, but is this normal for all maps in which (0 0 0) is not buried? Does anyone know what it is and how to get rid of it?

I always got this error but, when I go to 0 0 0, there's absolutely nothing there (triple-checked). So I presume is worldspawn....until now.

Possibly you have a world brush with the common/origin texture.

origin texture

There are four origin brushes that are part of doors, but I had the problem before the doors were in the map. Could someone make a quick test map with the floor at -64 Z, and see if this is normal?

Btw, I checked my .map file for stray (") and found none.

I assume you are using LOD terrain?

I'll try and make terrain at -64, is that all that should be there?

No, the ground is a solid brush and has caulk texture on all sides but one. To make a test map, just use the bottom brush of the skybox as the ground, give it caulk texture, and then texture the top face of it.

Thanks Kate, but I already tried that and nothing gets highlighted.

Go to edit -> entity info and check if all script_models have valid model keys.

Syntax error in a script or keyword value causes this.

No script_models in this map. It is still there with no script. I copied just the skybox and spawn points to a new map and it is still there.

Here is the new map, if any one wants to test it for me. The invisable thing is above the square on the ground.

I've tested that map and also tracked down the (0,0,0) origin spots on my own maps and you know what, that invisible thing seems to be always there. I guess I just didn't notice it before nor that console message. So it's probably best to avoid that spot or build something over it so the player can't walk into it. Man that's weird indeed :?

Yes I have had that to and with r_showtris either 1 or 3 I think it is , I see the blue and red crossing lines that usally indicate an entity . I think it is always there .

good

Ok good, at least I know it is not something I did. I guess that little baby is The Worldspawn Entity, but why it is solid we'll probably never know. If Worldpawn is a child, someone needs to find its parents and have it spanked, ha ha.

I thought the problem was you were getting an error, not that worldspawn exists as a solid entity?

error

Post by tltrude »

According to panTera, that console error is normal for all maps. I looked at Southern France and the error is in that one too, but the solid (0 0 0) grid point is underground.
