MSN Glitch

My main problem with MSN ( apart from the obvious one: MS is the devil

), is that when you talk to people all over the globe, it is vey irritating when people ask you something in the middle of your night ( my comp is almost always on and online ) and an hour later they drop offline... am I going to keep 15 MSN windows open at all times untill they get their asses back online? You cant send offline messages to MSN:ers...

The ability to not give a rats ass if the receiver is online or not is why I use IM instead of mail.

So please you guys and gals, get on a better IM protocol like ICQ or Jabber for gods sake.

advantages of MSN
1\most ppl all over the world use it .its like a telephone number now ,and its the most basic way of getting intouch with some1

2\very fast efficient and reliable ,rarely has any problems that i can remember .

3\it tells u how much mail u have instead of opening ur inbox to find out

4\it has alot of modes and options in which u can configure it from

5\its noob friendly ,its simple GUI makes it easy for any to use it

disadvantages
1\it doesnt send messages to offline users (which can be done by EMAIL (duh))

2\it can popup sometimes in "not good" situations (but most messengers are like that ,and all of them have options that can turn that off)

Why settle for one protocol?
I use Miranda IM, so I can talk to people on the following protocols: ICQ, MSN, AIM, Yahoo!, Jabber, Gadu-Gadu and IRC. You can also message over a LAN using ICQ groupware, or a choice of three Peer-to-Peer protocols: Netsend, E-mage and VyChat.
Also available are plugins for SMS, email checking, news feeds, weather notification, gaming and a horde of other things.

wow ,ur a good salesman .ill buy that

i never knew that such a thing exists ,but i guess i got so used to msn its hard to try something else ,besides i have yet to come by some1 who doesnt have msn (except madmapper ,and u i guess )
all my friends use MSN so i dont need IRC, ICQ , AIM , Yahoo! , Jabber , Gadu-Gadu (wtf are the last 2? )

and ,i suppose Miranda also has the same popup problem ,right ?
most messengers use popus for notification

I hate MSN, my main gripe is that you cant go invisible or send offline messages.

Over the years I have been stupid enough to let some annoying people add me as a buddy on MSN and I cant hide from them on MSN

I usually use yahoo messenger, I do have trillian too which is ok but hardly ever turn it on.

If you block them, you appear permanently offline, if it helps

You can decide the reaction to new messages in the settings: popup, just sound or just flash system tray.

well,u beat me there .i hate msn also for this thing
sometimes i just wanna log on check something and be out ,without chatting to any1 however important to me he is .but i cant do that ,id have to shut down MSN and open my email account manually

Well, I use msn. Everybody from my country got msn

u're crazy when u don't have msn there lol. Anyway I don't want to use an other program.

Jabber is an open source instant messaging platform. It has compatibility with other messaging systems as well (ICQ, AIM, Yahoo, MSN, IRC, SMPT).

Cannot stress enough the fact that it is OPEN. You know exactly what it does when you use it (at least you have access to the source to find out if you are willing to, or even contribute to the project).

yes Trillian is also a v.good program...

Yes, I used Trillian with only good things to say until I jumped to Miranda... But Trillian is made in the interest of making money and the source is not public, so I prefer Miranda ( Do I come of as paranoid to you guys?

Yes you do Bjarne and i told you about that trillian thing months ago, but did you listen to me.... noooo.... but glad to see you off of it. In all those posts did i happen to miss the one that has a link for miranda?
