MBuilder / Compiling Problems

Post by Sputnik »

Ok, My map isn't that big, but for some reason it takes f-o-r-e-v-e-r
to compile

What can I do to speed this up? I'm pretty sure its the lighting that takes the longest... *Even when I put it on Fast

Well, we'll need a little more info than what you've given. Would you be willing to send your .map file? That would be the quikest and most accurate way to pinpoint the problem.
Toby, or not Toby, that is the question...

you can use MOHpile and choose some of the no shadow and no light options on Light
that will speed up compiling for testing but I wouldnt release a map this those
options

All I have in the map is a small destroyed building with part of a road and a playerstart. Maybe the sunlight is part of the problem?

BTW: MOHPile won't even start for me, but thats another thread for another day...

you probably need VB6 run file
which are here
http://www.ekn.net/techs/vb6runfiles.zip
this should fix you up if not let me know

The map I'm working on now took a bout 30 min to make the BSP
and 33 hours to make the VIS
I still have to do the light yet
so yes it can take a logn time to compile maps

Sorry, Let me Clarify

Post by Sputnik »

Sorry, let me restate my MOHPile Problem: I can run the program, I just can't get the map to compile. It gives me an error that says something like -gamedir is not a recognized command or something like that. I'll find out and be more specific...

Yes, I found this button, and I made sure all of the options were set to the same thing as they are in MBuilder. Is there something i'm doing wrong??

I like the general interface of MOHPile better than MBuilder, so I'd like to get it to work.

'Path to MOHtools' should be the folder where MOHRadiant and Q3map are located

'Path to Map folder' should be where you tell MOHRadiant to save your maps
( should be Program Files/EA /MOHAA/Main/Maps or if you arent saving them there they have to be moved there to look at them in the game)

'Path to MOHAA Game EXE' should point to Program Files/EA /MOHAA or where you installed the game not to the main folder or the map folder

'Path to Game Map Folder' should point to "Program Files/EA /MOHAA/Main/Maps" no matter where you save your maps
as some people dont save their maps to the game map folder
it should not point to the DM folder
to use the 'Copy to MOH Maps Folder' if you dont use the game map
folder then you have it point this there

These are slightly different than MBuilder

if you choose Run MOHAA After make bat when the game comes up type
map your-map-name
and hit enter

I didnt make it auto start the map like MBuilder
as it takes you stright into the game ( I think)
I take you to the map editing part of the game
not sure what you can do to the map this way but your supposed to be able to do something in this mode but like the rest of MOHAA there isnt any documentation or at most very little documentation

this info will be added to the help of MOHpile

Well, MOHPile doesn't even begin to compile with all of these settings correct:

- I followed all of you directions, but all I get when I make it compile is a flash of the MS-DOS prompt. It doesn't matter though, I can just use MBuilder.

What settings are you talking about I use it all the time
and if all your getting is a flash then turn on the log and see why
it will be either your trying to use a setting your map cant handle or
maybe you have conflicting options set
or your trying to use ones that may not work at all
I have tried most of them at one time or another and some work on some maps and not others
it's still in beta and if someone dont tell me what it's doing then I cant fix it
MBuilder only gives you a few of the settings to work with

I really dont care which one you use but if your going to slam mine at least
tell me what the log said why you got an error
and please post it in the MOHpile Beta section
thanks

OUCH!!

Well Gee, I wasn't trying to 'slam' your compiler, just trying to figure this out. I like the interface of your compiler better, and thats why I want to sort this out. I'll try working it out on my own. Thanks anyway. Maybe its something with my computer or the map.

Sorry about the Slam bit

I want to help you figure out what is going wrong too maybe your not the only one having problems
you would try this please

choose your options
then click KeepBPS-Log
and then click Make bat and run it
then either zip up the file (yourmap-name-BSP-Log.txt ( it will be in the same folder as MOHpile and email it to me
or post it in the Beta Test :: MOHpile section
I will read it and see if we can figure out whats causeing the error or why it not compiling for you

Really I am sorry about that (off day)
but I do what to help you
thats why I made MOHpile its to help

I managed to get a screenshot of what happens when I click 'make .bat and run it' I'll try to get it up here...

I also noticed that when I click 'make bat file and run it' the log file is blank.

BTW: I discovered that everything else in MOHPile works! I can seperately make Light, Vis, and BSP files, but I can't seem to get it to work all in one.

ok now things are starting to make a little sence
are you running XP ?
if so you have to make MPHpile 98 compatable
see XP dont really have dos like bat files are ment to run in
so you have to tell XP it's a 98 program
if this is the case and you dont know how to do that let me know and
I will contact a friend of mine and find out how it's done
