Most textures used are the ones from mohaa and when you get more adventurous then try custom textures.
Here is a link to view all the mohaa textures simply http://homepage.eircom.net/~kdja4/textu ... xtures.htm
With texturing comes experience and when you have selected a texture bring up the surface manager (S in radiant) and manipulate the vertical and horizontal to fit or scale the texture down...this takes practice but is well worth it.
Lighting:
-----------
Now again play with these, you have to put in quite a few key/values by bringing up the entity manager (N in radiant) and within worldspawn.
Here is the exact lighting for the image below which was one of my previous maps.

ambientlight 7.5 7.5 7.5
lightmapdensity 16
overbright all
suncolour 65 60 45
sundifuse 1.3
sundirection 320 150 0
sunflare -7980 5388 3396
sunlight 255 243 171
The first name ie ambientlight is the KEY and the second figures are the VALUE.
This produces a strong sunlight effect with deepish shadows.
Play with these values to get a different effect.
Hope this helps.

Well it depends what style you want for your map so its impossible to advise you, however typing wall into the search bar within radiant will bring up various options, same goes for the search using floor/roof/window etc there is within the documentation of moh tools (radiant where you installed it) keywords to use in the search bar.
At the end of the day its trial and error until you get the look and effect you wish.
Good luck.
Seere.
PS. Welcome to .map

not to be short but i havent' got much time.
no.
use the textures toolbar option and flip through the libraries, algiers, central-europe, etc. they'll have jsut about all you need for Afrikan maps in the algiers.
same with europe, not snowy. so jsut experiment. make a sample house (it'll also build your knowledge on building houses, will it look right? is it realistic? etc)
