Moddeling - Where do I Start???

I really want to get into moddeling as I'd like to model The Stargate for my map rather than building it in radiant - But I have absolutely no idea how to do this so please can some1 tell me what programs I need and where to get them if you could also linnk me to some good tut sites that would be great

Now that an exporter is available for 3dsmax, it is a good program to use. Although is can be quite complicated.

MilkShape has an importer/exporter for static models.

I'm having problems getting 3D Studio Max - So where can I get Milkshape? also are there any tutorials for it?

I have looked for the Plugins for Milk and have tracked them all down since the links for moh on Milks website dont work. Let me know if you cant find them.

And I cant find a plugin for version6 3ds either just v4 or 5 and they wont work in 3dsmax6 So I have to use milk as a passthru for sdk
