LOD - regular brush

Post by PsychoE »

I'm just full of Q's today:

what is the best way to join a regular brush (ie a sidewalk) with LOD terrain (ie grass)

after compiled and in game, I can see either the brushes overlapping or a space between the "sidewalk" and "grass".

LOD will in some situations be hard,

LOD will look different when your game setting ( terrein detail ) is LOW or MAX, so you need to check it several times, if you want to to see how the lod terrein will look like with the MAX setting, go in radiant to lod terrein > scale 1 (100%) this will look a bit how it really will be, if you want to know how it will look with the LOW setting go: lod terrein > scale 2 (25%)

If both of them will fit correctly, then it will look good in the game.

If the connection from lod to sidewalk is still terrible, I prefer to use Simple Patch Mesh, or Simple Patch Mesh and then continue with the LOD

You can do this ( red = the road or sidewalk, green will be the LOD):

The road will be lower then the LOD, if the road is a patch, try to bring up the middle points of the patch by pressing V, so the (middle of the) road will be at the same high as the LOD or maybe higher ( sometimes this will look good)

You can also make a low wall (fence) between the road and LOD so you will not see a connection.

There are also more ways, g/l

I like the low wall/fence idea - I think i will try that.

thx

EDIT: put in a small curb and I have yet to test, but I believe that fixed it. thanks again for the help.
