1st person POV and MG view with hands?

Post by Sgt KIA »

I posted this Q at TMT:

Has anyone investigated is it possible to add 1st person hand view for (a custom) MG view? Like youd be able to see your hands controlling the MG when using it. As far as I know its not set in the .tik file but somewhere else. Im planning to use the hand view, if possible, for a custom MG with handles.

I'm guessing you mean a static placed machine gun like the mg42 in Moh:AA. Yes you can alter the weapon view, it's stored in a seperate *.tiki.

So take the mg42 for example, it would have two files: mg42_gun.tiki which is the "world" model, and a mg42_gun_viewmodel.tiki which is the model displayed when the player uses it. If you look at these two files you should be able to adapt them for your new machine gun.

Yes, adding a new MG isnt the problem. My problem is i dont know how to add 1st pov hands into a MG firing view. Im aware of the 2 tiks but since im not a scripter, i cant spot the correct place / method where hands are disabled/enabled.

1st pov hands are in usarmyplyr.skd. That file is used when you hold eg thompson. Now what file is making the difference to your view when you, holding the thompson and can see your hands, move on to fire the mg42 and your hands disappears?

Thanks for the tip. Anyways this is not quite what im looking for. You see id need to set certain skin for the hands and if its not the same as your mp skin it wouldnt look good. Thats why i wasnt thinking this kind of apporach.

Anyways i gave it a try. The pov changed continuously and i couldnt see the hands. I guess the eye bone of the 1st person hands model tried to overtake control over the displayed view all the time i moved mouse.

Well i might go for another one. Ill add only the hands on the gun itself, but no arms, and change the view so it wont look odd.

Got it! Separate hands model attached to the weapon worked fine.

Well, if you're not going to post the mod, you could at least post a screenshot.

Looks unreal, it's a nice idea but it is kind of weird how he holds it...pretty much impossible if you are not the strongest man in the world not to mention when it fires... :D

You are probably not aiming for realism but it's just my opinion.
