Uh oh... another "No, WE are the best" country disscussion

Just a few points of my own here:

First things first, I am a Brit, and i think Britain is a good country (not great, but it'll do

) I do NOT expect anyone else to agree with me on this, it is my personal view, etc. etc. Most people are biased towards their own country, i certainly am!

Basically this conversation is going like this:

"America is good" (hoglegs post) - Ok, i agree with that... to an extent

haha, i respect the other members views but not yours. have u had education? if so they've being telling u lies. if you are going to stick up for your country at least stick up for them without lying. half of the stuff we have was invented by British. and hogleg, how can u argue witht he fact that USA would be nothing if it wasn't for UK? Go study history over the last 200 yrs.

i want to make it clear that I HAVE NO PROBBLEM WITH AMERICA, OR IT'S PEOPLE, just some of thier views.

First off, I don't really think that one country is superior to another. They all have their own qualities of positive life styles, and like JV said "We were just spawned here".
I highly disagree with a lot of what America does and has done. My only point was to try to reflect some positive things about America since the world seems to be frowning on us. Because along with the bad we've done a lot of good.
I don't have negitive feelings about other countries, at all, and I relize that America does stick its nose in the worlds affairs, but look at Japan, they were much more powerfull than the usa, superior Navy and we kicked their ass. Japan adapted our ways and have been benifiting from it since then. And thanking us today, but at the time I'm sure they we cursing us.
It was justifiable because they attacked us!

I think this is Great that we can discuss these topics on a global arena.
Because every "side" has its on valid points. And were all pawns that are along for the Governments ride.

I didn't argue that now did I. We came from Europe basiclly. A mix of everyone.
I have nothing against the British people, or any people for that matter.
I have a problem with individual's not countries that cause the world to be a bad place.

And everyones idea of Utopia is different, thank god. If you travel the world and finally settle somewhere, that will be the best country in the world, in ur opinion.
And yes M@rine I often think that Australia is an ideal place, probly because the world has no anamosity towards them. If we had global war I would want to be there!

I think everyone should be carefull before they make rash judgements about other cultures and countries. Hopefully within a couple hundred years we will become a one world order and war will deminish.

yes, to be honest i think that people just take the world too seriously. before any of this distressing times, there were wars and political issues yes, but normal, everyday people tended not to get dragged in, bar a few exeptions. and im talking thousands of years ago here. if normal people dont get dragged in to the troubles of this world, we are all better off... i mean, we should just live life, chill out. it didnt used to be like this, or so i'm told.

i think that at the moment the world is in a very messed up state, and i often wonder what historians of the future would think of our generation, names that it could be refered to "The Data Age", which i think somes it up, "The Second Dark Age" which also does. it is the future genrations we all should be working together, so their age can be called something positive.

-M4rine, USA has some faults but so does UK. And just cuz our president sent us off to war and said certain things, dosnt mean that 100% of the poulation feels that way too. You wouldnt believe the politics be disscusased in schol among the students alone. Not to mention that public.
But if you critizing us for that, then your know better than the ppl we are at war with. You insulting us for something you dont know all the facts about.

-everyone else, dont go off in heted argumeants just cuz another person insulted our great nation, if thats the way he feels, then thats the way he feels. Almost all other countries are thinking the same things. No one likes us cuz we are the only truly "free" world and we unite rather than fall apart everytime something tragic happens.

He chaulked that up as a victory.

1. Spain backed USA's effort.
2. Al Qaeda bombs Spain.
3. Spain changes their government

well, it seems to me that we got over the initial slugging at each other, now we're getting somewhere.

nobody can say they dont have a prob with any country. you have a prob with it if you are human. there will ALWAYS be a country with compltely different views. take Middle East for example. their culture is to put it moderately, brutal. Iraq, tortures everywhere, Iran, Afghanistan, that whole area is chock full of hate. cut off some1's hand for stealing bread for his family, stab out his eye for whatever else they feel appropriate. as you can see i dont like that area... it's not the people, it the way it's run. it's too brutal imo. too extreme. for being the "Land of God" they sure like to maim each other. not sure i want to go to heaven if it's anyhting like the Land of God...

Well I must answer Holglegs post, about Spain.

I wonder what kind of information you got about what really happened.

No matter if the bombing incident would have happened or not, the government was doomed, and for many reasons. In fact the whole country was against supporting Bush, nobody wanted to send troops to Irak and we had a natural disaster also in northern Spain. Of course other many problems caused by the government... When your president is a clown you are happy when the other one is elected.

I guess we are happier now. Maybe when alQaeda bombed the train in Madrid (my town), it was the definitive circumstance that made idle people vote. Well it had to happen, troops are (mostly) back home again, and everything is just going fine here. We are happier, really.

If you think this is manipulation by Bin Laden, well, I tell ya it is not. It was clear in the US with Clinton. He had to fall. So did he. Same here, president Aznar knew months before there was no way he could be reelected for the third time.

We hate Bin Laden as much as you do, but we never got involved in a war that way. You could read everywhere the words SAY NO TO WAR, people wore pins, t shirts, .... the feeling was clear about that. When the first troops got moved to the gulf we just could not believe this was happening. But of course Bush and Aznar seemed to be close friends.

We paid a high price...

And our hearts were with you Americans when the planes crashed in the twin towers in NY. They were, are and will remain.

2) US dollar is the world currency! Just because it is .70 cents to the UK pound/euro doesnt mean that the pound is the world currency.
