lod or simple patch mesh

What would decrease the FPS most? it is the patch mesh isn't it? more faces.

No simple answer to this, it depends on the complexity of the patch mesh. A really wobbly patch mesh with high complexity set will probably be worst.

mmm, yes. depends on size and complexity of both. but comparing lod-terrain and a patch mesh with both the same amount of faces, is there a better and a worse?
Like if I could use both for the same goal, is there one to prefer?

I dont know, but I dont think there is a hude performance difference.
The biggest difference is in the cituations they are most easy to work with...Like you'll plobably be better off using LOD for a bib open landscape, and patch mesh for steep cliff sides.
