image with a transparent background

Can anyone tell me how to make a image have a transparent background?

I keep setting it to transparent threw ps, but ingame it just white were it should be see threw.

Below is one cobra made that shows the c47s interior and a transparent door but it was made by accident, we need a guide showing how to do it?

It is set by the background color lines.

bgcolor 0 0 0 0

The first three numbers are the color, and the forth is the "alpha"--zero is completly see-through.

sorry tom i mean, the hud as a shader (texture file) in it and that needs to have a transparent background.

so when the hud pops up, the image in it as a transparent background.
