MoH Mod Day

Post by Surgeon »

Hi guys,

Over the past week, I attended the first MOH:PA Mod Day, hosted by EALA in Los Angeles. Alongside me were around 15 respected and well known figures of the MOH community (including Bjarne). As well as some of the MoH:PA development team, more than a few of the dev team from TKO made the flight over as well.

The day consisted of more than a few lectures on the nature of MoH:PA and how to mod the game, as well as a tour of the studios, and of course food.

I think most of us left the studios feeling, at least, confident that EA and TKO are both geared to giving the modding community a lot of support and tools to work with. Personally i was impressed with the effort that they went to to get us all there, and the information they gave us, both now and in the future, shows promising signs.

There will be an MDK (Mod Development Kit) and I can promise you that it goes much further than just supplying the community with a map editor. This MDK is being tested by some in the community and will be rolled out when we think it is up to scratch and can be most benificial to you, the public at large.

Over the next few days I hope to be supplying a lot of the info gathered to you, as well as some photos from the trip

That's awesome. Our community is only to get stronger with that kind of support. :D

heck i'd like to meet jv bjarne and surg, they're the 3 coolest!

this is great news, they msut have seen how well we've done with MOHAA and can see that their games will only last longer by allowing freelance modders to work their magic. :)

Dam glad to hear EA is finally doing something to support us.
I just hope it isn't one of those schemes to help themselves against the onslaught of the HL2 release and all of its modding capabilities.

I can say one thing for all us modders to prepare to mod MOH:PA:
Start to learn Milkshape ( or a 3D modeler program like Maya, 3D studio or Lightwave ).

If we are lucky some smart individual would write up something that would let you import/export directly out of gmax since it is free to everyone. Now that would be ideal and such a person would be a hero.

One thing i'd like to see in the MDK is the source code for the editor, or for any other tools, or at least a good API so they can be customized/repaired if the need is there.

I got so tired of MoHradient always crashing and destroying my work that i completely stopped working on any map.

Only hope this kit will be much better.
And i know i'll have to get a new PC, can't even run MoH:PA right now, i don't even meet the minimum system requirements... :(

They would also have to have a licence for granny models.

Thats just the nature of the radiant. First thing to learn when useing a radiant is to backup and then backup and dont forget to backup...get the idea.

Heheh Ed was demonstrating some of the mapping stuff and it crashed at least twice on him, so it happens to the Devs too.
