Glitch Spot of the Week

Post by Cheetohs »

Hello everyone, Throughout the several years of playing MOH:AA, i have hunted down and remembered every 'glitch' spot in every map (Exception of Snowy Park). In doing so, i think it is safe for me to say that i know 99% of the glitch spots. This being said, I'd like to 'share the wealth' by revealing a spot every week.

Some of these spots i'm sure most of you have seen, but I might post them anyways so that new players can understand and attempt. Along with each spot, ill give the difficulty and a detailed step by step plan of how to execute the tricks.

If you don't know how to do the high jump read straight through, if you already know how to do the high jump skip to the dotted line a short ways down.

Before I go on, there is one thing that you MUST know to do most of these tricks, and that is the High/Long Jump. The high/long jump is very effective in many ways. Here is how you do it...

Some spots to practice at so you know if you are doing it right:
-Crates (V2 axis crates are a very good example)
-Remagen's large,square tree/flower beds.
-The Hunt Church's front windows (a bit different, but practice nonetheless)

Ok, i think you get the point, just find a spot where if you normal jump you can ALMOST get up, just the extra foot or so is needed. Well, Here is how you do the high/long jump, there are 2 different forms for the high jump:

1.Running High Jump
Get a decent distance away from the object. Run straight at it, about a foot away from the object LET GO of the Foward key, the split second you let go of the forward key TAP (and release) your JUMP KEY, now, at the peak of your jump, HAMMER DOWN on the move forward key. You should get the extra inches/foot you need to get on it. Be patient, it can take some practice.

NOTE: you really dont need to run, it just helps the timing and 'actual-gameplay' scenerios. Try standing still and doing it, still works.

2.Inclined Plane High Jump
This one requires more time, but is also very effective. a Good example of this being used effectively is getting onto The Hunt's church roof. here is how this one works. This picture is the side-view:

Code: Select all

              |||||||||||
              |||||||||||
              |||||||||||
            o_|||||||||||
x___________/|||||||||||||
x- Starting point.
o- Execute High Jump point. (note: its right before the lip).

Get a running start, and do the same button technique as mentioned above. If done correctly, you should launch really high, 3 times the original jump height. Perfect place to practice this is at The Hunt, churches front windows.. different levels of windows, all CAN be jumped into, practice.

--------------------------------------

Now that you have the basic understanding of jumping the right way :wink: , lets introduce the opening glitch spot. Heck, since its the opener, lets do TWO spots.

Map: The Hunt
Difficulty: Very Hard, Very Hard
Overview: Getting on the church roof (a different way) AND, getting onto the very top of the church... Solo.

Image
(Yellow marked structures on the map are the ones you're using and looking out for!)

We'll start with red, getting onto the church. yes, this way is a bit useless when there is the much easier way... but heck. Im sure there's a mod out there somewhere preventing people from getting on the church, you'll stun em with this one... Anyways. Step by step:
The picture is pretty easy to follow...
1.Jump onto the ledge where the red line begins. From this ledge, you can see the slanted corner of the next ledge barely
2.jump out to it, face it the whole time and run onto it.
3.It's slanted so you might slip if you dont hold forward against the wall. If you look up, at about head height, is the next slanted ledge, you cant do a normal jump, so this is where the Running high jump comes in..
4. There is little room for a run (and for error!), so here is how it's done. tap backwards so you go backwards, than tap forwards really fast and go straight into the high jump key menuevers.
5. you should be propelled up onto the next slanted ledge, unable to stand, now, down and to your right, you should see the adjacent pillar, just like the one you are on. DON"T JUMP to it. simply walk off the one you're on and hold forward, (aim for the lower ledge). you should easily land on it.
6.repeat step 4 and the short running jump to the ledge at your head height. this ledge you should be able to stand up on. To your right, you should see the church roof... OH SO CLOSE!.. but dont get impatient, this is the hardest step.
7. release all keys so that you start to slide off the ledge, at the last second, run forward and go straight into a high jump (hit the foward key a bit earlier than the peak of the height for a long jump).

Ta dah. you're on the roof. Now, to get on the NEXT height of the roof... All by yourself.

looking down the way you just came from, on the right wall, you should see two step-like supports and the roof hanging over them.
1. Jump onto the first one (make sure your standing up!)
2. Start slipping off the SIDE, not back, of this one, right as soon as your about to fall jump forward onto the next one
3. From here, its easy as pie to jump onto the roof.. ta dah.

Short steps, sound easy? You're wrong. This is VERY hard to get the timing down. you have to be exact to get from the 1st step to the 2nd one. It's hard because the roof is hanging over these steps half way, and these steps arent very wide at all, so there is little margine to messup.

A good tip on this one is to not keep your cursor on the 2nd step. Instead, put your cursor to the left a bit so that the steps are at about the 1 to 2 o'clock position. and when you jump, SIDE-strafe onto the 2nd step. Works a lot easier.

Any questions or comments? ask. Ill be glad to even show you in person how they're done!

Thats it for this weeks glitch spot(s), "Tune in next week for a new one!"[/u]

That's sweet Cheetohs, i always wondered how poeple could get to some places. I'm not a hard-core gamer so my FPS abilities are not well developped... and i can get so impatient ;)

Thanks for the High-Jump infos, i'll practice it. :)

I'll be watching this thread for sure. :D

for most jumps you can get by just using a stationary high jump, stand still, jump, at height of jump press forward. There are a few areas where you do need to use run(or it just works smoother) including one of the few jumps ive yet to manage solo, on remagen. The problem fro the one on remagen is your doing it off a railing, and ive yet to practice it enough to know where to start.

I love jumps, and i definately would call them glitches.... when i think of glitch spots, I think cover gone awry, which exists in every board, cause the engine for moh sucks in that respect. Like when you can see someones gun sticking out of a corner, but can see NO part of them, yet they can see you, and you die =) Most of those spots, you CAN hit someone, but on which pixel is often hard to predict, and most good players have to make a real effort to consciously shoot at a wall

anyway, the lesson of MOH stock maps... clip every roof you dont want people getting on, even if you cant see any way its possible lol. I know people love geting on the roof(me more then most) but as a mapper, I want NO one on my roof, because the map is designed so you can see what you can see, and not designed for people looking from the roof. =)

Well, haven't gotten much input on the previously stated glitch, but that's last week. Give me some feedback, did you try it? any glitch recommendations? Etc.

Week 2 Glitch

Map: Southern France
Difficulty: Medium, Medium
Overview: 2 different ways of getting onto the roof of the south house overlooking the Small bridge.

Image
(Building on Far right is the destination building)

Spot 1:
As shown on the yellow circle with "1" in it. Step by step:
Image
(Red is the path, Yellow is key ledges)

-Jump on step's ledge
-Do a short run/high jump onto the lamp
-Keep hitting jump until you are on the wood ledge. Careful, you have to keep pressing against the wall, if you need to rest for some reason, place your player over the wood support "Block/square" Beams, so that your base is twice as wide.
-Follow the beam until you get to the 'gutter' that blocks the wood beam's path.
Image
(Red signifies normal running/walking, Blue is jumping)

-When you get to the gutter, below you on the wood beam is one of those support, block beams, stand on it so you can release all keys. (the closest support beam to the gutter)
-Now, Either you will slowly start slipping (depending on how far out you are) or you will stay standing perfectly still... i
-f you are slipping, at the last possible moment jump at a slight angle, keeping the Spot where you want to land at about the 11o'clock position,
-as soon as (in midflight) you pass the gutter face 9o'clock and press against the wall.
-now simply jump across the bridgeway and onto the roof. ta da.

Spot 2:
(Labeled "3" on the overview map)
Image
(Blue means to execute a running high jump, Red is the jump itself, Yellow are Key ledges to look for.)
-Jump onto the Bridge Railing.
-Looking up you will see the window/balcony. slowly move backwards to just about falling off, than hammer forward and execute a [short] running high jump.
-as soon as you get to the balcony floor ledge, hit forward so you stay on.
-still holding forward, jump onto the balcony railing. Don't worry about going to far and into the balcony... you won't fall through. Its only a Caulk Texture!
-Now that you are on the balcony rail, look to the destination roof.... One long, large leap to go!
-Run forward and at the last possible second the balcony rail is under you, execute a running LONG jump (tap jump, release, as soon as you release jump, tap forward... Should be done really fast!)
-Moment of truth, either you will hit the edge and fall, or you will make it onto the roof, only good practice and key 'meneuvers' will know.

Heck, you can get on the roof a lot easier way by using two people, but what if no one will listen? Do it yourself. Also Note that these spots can be used for many other things... like the window balcony on the last spot, you could camp there, makes a unique, unknown camping spot! Or you could use the wood ledge in spot 1 to backtrack the other way and do who-knows-what.... use it to your advantage. Be creative while playing. Suprise the enemy.

im always on that roof in southern france... cause frankly the map sucks, and im usualy quite bored.

jumping around the gutter is very very easy, once you do it a bit, I find it easiest jsut to run strauight up to it(while holding left), turn into the corner as i hit the pipe, and then jump, usualy drift right around it and catch the ledge with no problem. You can also get on that ledge from the blacony at top of stairs and follow it aroudn corners to get there.

You didn't mention getting on the roof via the power wire, I guess every1 knows that one.

I think southern france is a great map for about 12 people.
