Alpha Channels

Post by At0miC »

Heya I would like to learn how to create an alpha channel (masked stuff) to a custom texture.
For example this one:

So the black would be invisible in the game.
Could someone explain me how I can do it, just simple I don't need a whole storie 8-)

I'm using Paint Shop Pro 8

Thnx 8-)

Fairly easy. Take the wand tool, adjust the settings so that it just selects the black area and mess around with the channels menu - there's something like 'load alpha from selection'.

It should be one of the options under the selection tool on the left. It looks like a microphone. Any tool, with the down-pointing arrow, has more options.

You can add to what the wand has selected by right clicking it on a new area and picking "add to selecton"--at least that is how it works in photoshop 5.5.

Okay thanks rookie and tltrude, I'll try

By the way, do I have to do something with the shader of the texture for the alpha channel? Because I saw something about it in shaders.

Sure u'll have to. Easiest way would be to copy/paste one of the other masked textures and change the folders and names
