A possibly important discovery!

Post by Rookie One.pl »

Woohoo! No more messing with pk3s in main! 8-)

While trying to do something creative :P I discovered a thing that might be EXTREMELY useful with total conversion mods. Make some directory in your MoHAA root directory (NOT main) and copy all .so files (.dll if you're using w!ndoze  ) from main to this directory. Put some TC mod pk3 in that folder and now run MoHAA like this:

Code: Select all

mohaa +set fs_game yourtotalconversionfoldername
And see what happens! I tried it already with MW and CNF, both seem to work fine! :D

How about the original stuff like the pk3's in the main directory, should it be still readed while starting up the game? Or else you must also put all the original pk3's (which is still needed for any mods) in your new directory, and that would be a bit useless.

Nice found anyway

Nah, it reads the stuff from main anyway. However, there's something I can't seem to figure out. :? I can't load any custom map, they appear in the map list, but in 2/3 of loading it returns to main menu with a "BSP not found" error in the console. :? If I run a stock map there are missing textures on the models and the menus... Well, they're not missing, the game just cannot read them... :? It also doesn't read MW's ubersound... Maybe somebody else can sort it out? I haven't got much time to mess with it...

If you have shortcuts for Spearhead or Breakthrough, You should be able to figure out how they did it by looking at the command line.

That's exactly the problem I had when trying to use fs_game for modern warfare... figured most players would prefer a pk3 in main anyway :)
