i wonder if it occured to the guy to actually try to enforce the laws there and start apprehending the gangs that teach this mentality, as opposed to going at a game that (guaranteed) 99.999% of people who play it aren't mass murderers. let's focus on the minority and ban fun games from responsible people.

of course none of these are actually that bad, Halo was freaky at first, but just like HL2, once you get used to it, piece o' cake. zombies and the like really dont scare me much from those games.
My mom let me buy HL2, Halo, AvP 1, and a coupel other M rated games, never checked it. although she knows i'm no mass murderer or anythingIn the Opinion section a couple of months ago thee was this kid who wanted GTA for a long time so his parent went and bought GTA:SA for his 8 year old son! Only after the store clerk told him what was in it did the parent tell his son to pick another game... His kid had been asking for GTA:SA and the parent didnt even bother to ask anyone or go online and resarch it... what an IDIOT

yeah... its pretty easy to destinguish between VideoGame and reality.... Its like some people think we pick up the controller of a game thats bloody-goory, tons of cursing, sex, and guns, and we're gonna stand up after 30 minutes and start gunning down everyone around us viloently while cursing uor heads off....

yeah i DO disagree with letting anyone under 13 see R rated movies and playing M rated games, because at that age with this society system, they're still learning.
after like 14 and 15, i can't see why not.
wham, now anyone who has played anything with a trickle of blood in it is now considered dangerous and ready to explode.
of course it isnt just that, more ncidents like that were somehow tied to VVGs.

mostly how this started was teh Columbine problem. those two played GTA 3 and Doom, two gory games. although they obviously had more problems, their parents weren't close enough to understand them, and noted somewhere they played those games.yeah... its pretty easy to destinguish between VideoGame and reality.... i have been reading a forum post and it got me fired up, and at the end there was a link to this which is what im talking about.. consider the chart the last link mentions.. during the vid game era there has actually been a DECREASE in violent crimes... the kids are sitting at home playing games (or preferably for us, reading forums and bleh) instead of going out and getting acquainted with hoodlums in the west-side slums.... and the biggest part that got me angry was this:
27 rated higher than violent media ( ALL media, not just videogames ) including weak parents and bad parent-child relationships... dont forget IGNORANT parents:In an analysis of the risk factors of youth violence by the Surgeon General of the United States of America, violent media is categorized as ?Small Effect Size.? In fact, there are 27 risk factors rated higher than exposure to violent media, like socioeconomic status, academic failure, poor parent-child relations, weak social ties, and being male. Quick! Ban all the males!

working register, I sold a woman a mature rated game after explaining that yes, there is blood, yes there is sex, yes there is violence. An hour later she came in to scream at me, because she didn't listen and her 12 year old played san andreas. Because, you know, it's the manufacturer's fault.
ANDI played this game with an eight year old, his dad said it was fine because although it had sex and violence, it didn't have any rape, so it was fine.
ok im done...If you don't want your kid playing a game because it has sexual content, it's your responsibility as a parent to make that decision. I'm not going to pay uncle sam to [*******] babysit your kid because of your ineptitude when it comes to your half assed parenting.
I don't care if you're a "woman on the go" or a successful businessman. If you don't have time to raise your kids then you shouldn't have had them to begin with. Do us a favor and don't have anymore because I don't give a rat's ass about your childrens' social development. They are not my responsibility, they are yours.
this would sum it up for me.
And must complain to other people for it.
It's not so much these people being ignorant, it's that they're actually trying to put a stop to good game dev studios, ruling out any violence in games would put countless game dev studios out of work, publishers would crumble, teh economy might not collapse but it'll damn well have a cow. games are as big an industry as home furnishing.
i could care less what people think, it's when they try and force it do i get mad.
Which happens to be why the Jehova's Witnesses never come by anymore :S
with an addendium:Dut, welcome to America, where we are somehow offended by nearly everything

I dont understand why people argue about any of this.
Games have ratings to protect minors who might otherwise buy things thier parents wouldnt like secretly...
No amount of protest, debate, or outrage will do anything but further increase profits for people who make violent games/movies. There is no such thing as bad publicity, each 'focus group' formed intent on 'bringing down' makers of violent games gives them further exposure and usualy helps thier bottom line. GTA:SA was the foucs of intense outcry, and I do believe, 'despite' all that it was the must have game at the time.
Its basicaly a non-issue that people love to talk about. The outcome has been predetermined, the rest is jsut irrelevant conversation.
Aside from all that, instead of studying the link between games and violence, they should be studying the link between overall gaming and poor school performance, lowered levels of creativity(and literacy), and obesity. Kids dont go outside today. They watch TV and play games... of course this is a blanket statement and doesnt apply to all... but I would be suprised if 50% of american children could even muster the energy to beat another kid to death, at least not without having a coronary. =)
The standard rebuttals of:
Video Games improve hand eye coordination!
Games improve tactical and creative thinking!
Games are much better for you then just watcvhing TV!
are all BS in one way or another...
There are Hundreds of healthier ways to improve your hand eye coordination.
Only a Small percentage of games encourage any real thinking at all.
And yes games are marginaly better for your intellect then TV, but if youve ever witnessed a teenager playing GTA(any of them) for the billionth time, youll surely notice that driving around smashing up cars is pretty much the same as watching someone drive around and smash up cars.
OK to be fair... I admit to being a snob, and harboring elitist tendencies... so perhaps many might disagree with my next sentence... but who cares?
Americnas(I dotn know the rest of the world) are growing up fatter and stupider every day. While this is not Because of Video games and TV, they are both one excuse for the trend. Most of the people here are reasonably intelligent... even the ones who beleive in crop circles =) However, the general public... while always having been mroe then a bit on the idiotic side, grows dumber by the minute. So dumb in fact, that many of them believe that kids kill each other because of a video game... or judas priest, or whatever... Actualy more kids probably act out violently cause someone called them fat. Because most likely, they are fat. And pale. And generaly probably lacking many social skills that they might aquire by going outside.
I like games... enjoy playing them... but the obsession the youth of america has with them, which translates into massive amounts of thier free time spent playing or watching TV... is disturbing to say the least.
/end rant!

Ive experienced that first hand...Actualy more kids probably act out violently cause someone called them fat. Because most likely, they are fat. And pale. And generaly probably lacking many social skills that they might aquire by going outside.
hey wimp!.. (he then punched my kidney, sad how do you like that, and i started laughing even thought i couldnt breathe
why dotn kids just ignore the kids that are aggrivating them? if they ignore them, the agitator will just get bored and walk away! AGH nobody listens, especially one troubled girl i know.. i keep telling her that but she never listens >_<...
Children, almost by definition, are immature...
if they were self confident, self-possessed, and immune to the ridicule of thier peers(who are in general probably stupider then them); they would be mature, thereby destroying the fabric of the universe as we know it, leading us all down the fiery path to hell!
Oh or was that one of those rhetorical questions which really doesnt have an answer and is just an observation or philisophical rant against the cruel and perverse nature of the world in wich we live?
Anyway, not everyone has to be thin, or outgoing or well dressed... just ot clarify my above post was more about actualy obesity and health issues, as well as overall intellect and required social skills... I am now 28(I think, after 20 it gets really hard to recall... entire years actualy... that I cant recall... doh), and at my 'advanced' age, I have learned that society unfortunately values good looks and social graces and conformity/popularity far above any other area of what makes us human. However, knowing that, does not bring you any closer to dealing with being an 'odd' individual... as well... all 'individuals' are. But children especialy havent had the positive experiences that will hopefully eventualy give them the strength to not care that others will try to assimilate themselves by 'putting them down' for the things that make them unique, or the flaws with which they struggle.
Ive yet to meet a kid who was an 'outsider' who truely was comfortable in thier skin... Its hard to know that at the end of the day, people who we dont care about have no bearing whatsoever on our lives... when all you know is from school...
