Objective Rockbound (AA/SH): preview

Post by panTera »

Hello guys,
okay I think it's about time I post some pics of an objective map that's as good as done. God knows how long I've been working on it but after having shelved it for months (because I got really sick of mapping) it kind of felt like wasted time not to finish it. I designed it with objective-play in mind but decided to also make a DM version and a seperate spearhead version.

Here are some pics:

"Background":
The Allies completely pushed the Wehrmacht out of Africa and on May 13, 1943, the remnants of the Axis forces in North Africa surrendered. North Africa was used as the jumping-off point for the invasions of Sicily and Italy in 1943. At the end of the war, in connection with the operation intended to remove the evidence of their crimes, German authorities ordered the demolition of the furnaces and crematoria.

Now I don't know for sure whether or not there actually have been crematoria in Africa but for the sake of mapping I thought I'd combine some of the facts and make an objective where the Axis are to blow up the remaining evidence. So maybe not 100% historically correct but hopefully that won't take away the fun. There are two bombspots (one is right above the other) but only one bomb needs to be set to win. I still need to sort out some minor sound and shader issues but if all goes well I will have the map ready for download within a few days or so.

later!

All I can say is: WOW!!! :shock:

Great job! The screenshots remind me of such great maps as Oasis and Desert Temple from ET.

To me it appears we've got by far the best MoH African map ever. 8-)

Again, great job! :) Can't wait to play it!

Thanks for the comments so far :)
I could post some more screenshots but I don't want to show every inch of the map, you know. As of now the map is ready to go but first I'm doing some more play-testing with a couple of mates. So far it seems to have been the right choice to keep things relatively simple in terms of layout and size because the map is also fun with just 6 players in an objective match.

Right, I'll do the best I can to get this thing out the door.

Wohaa!! Looks totally sweet.

The only bad thing I can find is that in some pics the rock edges ( at the map edge ) looks like they are cut off. But finding that to complain about was really a desperate measure :)

The overview shows promise of exelent varied gameplay.

@Lizardkid: I don't release map-files in public, never did and probably never will. (But that doesn't mean I won't share it privately of course :wink:). We'll see, I got to release it first.

@Bjarne: Thanks, nice to hear! About those rock edges, that's only because sky brushes are close to or against some of them. It won't be visible when you're walking in the map, I made sure of that.

Yes, sorry forgot to mention that it's not only Objective, but I've also made a DM version... hehe "small detail". So there's gonna be an obj-version and a dm-version in one pk3. And then the same for Spearhead but in a seperate pk3.

I must tell you PanTera, the more my friends and I play your map the more I'm impressed.

Layout=10
Sound=9.5
Structures=9.5
Textures=9

Hell, I'd give it a 9.99 out of 10 over-all. :wink:

Thanks hogleg, good to hear:)
(side note: I have just started working on it some more (sigh) to get rid of some of the mentioned glitches. When it's done I will update the thread in the public release-forum.)
