Can't play PA from disk
This does not just apply to PA but also to doom3 . I tried to play those games on my new rig but when I do the computer just resets . I eventually figured out that I can play them but only with the nocd patches . It must have something to do with my dvd drive . It did not come with a cable for the sound card but my mobo has 7.1 onboard sound that sounds good to me . I am useing a plextor dvd burner and my rig has dual e-geforce 6800GT vid cards with 256mg each I am also running in SLI mode but I don't think that has anything to do with it . This will cause problems with multiplayer won't it ? I mean useing the nocd patch will cause problems . Anyone heard of this problem and know how to fix it ?

Should not have anything to do with the audio cable. That would be only for listening to audio right from the DVD drive. When you play a game most pull sound from the install folder. If it pulled it from the DVD your load times would be crazy.
Is this an IDE drive? How is this installed to the mobo? If IDE do you have any other IDE devices on the same cable? Are you useing a different cable then what came with the drive?

It is a plextor dvd burner on ide controler 2 useing a mutant mods UV reactant ide cable at the end position . I installed the game from this drive . The strange part is it causes the computer to just shut off and reboot . I can only play games with the patches any game that looks for the cd drive just causes the problem . Well those two games anyway I have not tried and other games yet . I have the dvd drive from my old computer still . It is not a burner so I may put it in and see if that works .

That was going to be the next guess....if a spare dvd drive was around. If that does work make sure they are both set the same as far as the jumper that controls slave, master, or cable select. The jumper should be on the back along with the IDE and audio connector. Most of the time if its the only device on the cable it does not matter other then some very slight performance issues depending on the rest of the hardware.bdbodger wrote:It is a plextor dvd burner on ide controler 2 useing a mutant mods UV reactant ide cable at the end position .
