LOD terrain and trenches...

Post by Rookie One.pl »

Hi,

First of all, sorry for these lame questions of mine, I never really did map with patches or LOD terrain...

I've got a little piece of terrain, and I'd like to turn this into a trench (this picture is with terran shading turned on so that you can see it's not flat):
Image
But if I select individual patches, they're a bit too big...
Image
And as an effect I get this (pretty sh*tty, huh? :? ):
Image
I thought of making an overlapping patch, but I'm sure there's a better and simpler way... Am I right? ;)

And yeah, I know the grass and road textures don't match, but I don't care at the moment. :P

If it were me I would "delete" those areas of the lod (If I were to use lod terrain) and construct the trenches out of brushes and meshes in that location.

Hit the spot with that advice Gen, or just put the LoD down more and use overlapping meshes

Thanks for the replies, guys.

You go to "Edit facet flags" in the "LOD terrain" menu to get the "Edit facet flags dialog". Make sure the "Select all facets in patch" button is not pressed in. Now you should be able to select individual facets in the LOD by holding CTRL+SHIFT+left mouse button.

Simpe eh? :) ( man, what were they thinking when they decided on that chain of commands? )

Oh, and remember to select the "Color surface flags" under the "LOD terrain" menu so that you can actually see the changes you make to the LOD...
