a MUCH worse problem

Post by urc-special »

MOHRadiant blows. Well maybe not but it wants to give me alot of trouble. In my mansion map that I recently put out the beta version for Iwas trying to go back and make some finishing touches. Then a weird thing happened. I couldnt copy anything except functioned items and furniture. So i thought weird, and just made new walls rather than copying. I saved it andc it saved instantly... also weird for as most of you know radiant can take ages to save a bigger map. Next day i went to open the file, and it was only 372 kb, when the day before it had been 1,972 kb. I open it, and the only things there are the static items i had put in, and the functioned items. Now, everytime i save this map, it saves a 372 kb version. Has anyone EVER had this happen.... if so PLEASE help me. I would cry if i never got to finish this map i've spent soooo much time on. Well maybe not, but it would make me mad.

.map

The .map file is a text document and it can be opened with Wordpad. If a line in the text has an error, all the lines below that one are not read by the editor and stuff goes missing.

Try the .bak file - that contains what you saved before your last save..

Does it? :o
I always wonder what all those .bak etc. files are doing in my map folder... I just deleted them... :?
Well, it seems they're not just useless, so what do they do???

They are the copies of the .map files in the state they were in before the last saving.

.bak

To use a ".bak" file, you must change the extention to ".map". Then it can be opened with the editor.

Yep, i tried the .bak file and it is the last saved point, but it wont save as a ful file, it saves as the 372 kb file, with no walls. Actually.. it is only without the worldspawn target name's. All of the statics and functioned doors etc are still there but no regular walls. Any way the old version i found worked once. Then i compiled it and puyt the bsp in my pk3 played it fouind something i wanted to fix, went back and what do you know same problem, i cant edit it again.
