Yeah, gamespy is alright for some MP gaming... I think if you install MOH:AA, gamespy arcade (you need this for MP) is already included.
So just go to the backdoor in the main menu of the game and there you are

I'd say yes. Every spyware is crap.

And apart from that, ASE is light-weight, I mean, it doesn't eat up as much memory and CPU as Gayspy does.

It's a shareware but it doesn't get expired. It'll show you a nag window every week but will allow you to play games anyway.
