Bot Scoreboard (Works but with a few bugs)

Post by Spudgolf02 »

I started fiddling around with this months ago but never got around to finishing it. At the moment it will only work on the server hosts computer but it is great if you just want to play by yourself.

Unfortunately there is no team sorter so you will need to place 10 bots on each team to get the teams perfect. Also to accomplish this you will need to add the bots manually using a bot menu. (I think there was one advertised on these forums) This may mean you have to edit the map scripts to take out the automatic bot spawning.

Once all this is done and all the bots are on the right team everything goes well. The bots kills and deaths are accurately recorded although there is no sorter to order them.

Unfortunately the last bug that may frustrate people is that at the end of the round the server may have to be reset due to the fact that the counters and such may not reset. I havent done much testing into this yet

Here's a couple of screenshots

It is still very buggy and ill be happy for more experienced scripters to take my scripts and fix them up a bit.

However i need to know if im allowed to release this because i had to change some of jv's scripts. Am i allowed to release it or not?

Yes you are definately allowed to release it... I'd really like to encourage people to mod the bots... that's why I tried to make em moddable to some extent also :)

Anyway Spudgolf02 this looks really promising... does a player get kills for killing bots? Does the death counter work for players?

I suppose it works with a bunch of cvars for the bot names / scores / kills? ... I can probably help with the sorting if needed.

Keep up the great work :)

Thanks Jv ill put together a readme file to explain how to get it working properly. Unfortuantely the player death does not work at the moment as you can see in the screenshots.

The player does get kills for killing bots but the bots dont get kills for killing the player. Also the bots can go on a team killing spree and still have their score go up.

There are a lot of cvars used in this and i had to remove some other mods to stop the game from giving a MAX_CVAR's error.

My scripting knowledge is only at a beginner level and I believe the things I have done can be refined and compressed a litttle. I am even thinking about starting again now i have a little more knowledge of variables and counters.

If anyone knows where I can host it i will release it.

How big is the file you want to host ?
Are you releasing the current version, or are you first revising this version (with some help of jv)?

Yes a lot of questions, but since it really looks nice and because I play bot maps quite often I can't wait to use it. I've also integrated the bot maps in a package (amongst other things) and I would really like to provide this feature to the users of the package. (btw fully credited of course  )

Sorry ive been away im emailing the file to jv so he can put it up.

You need to understand that it is very buggy and the code needs some things done to improve it.

Updated the scripts:

One quick question: any way to detect player team by cvars or some level var in the bot script ?

Currently the player is only displayed in the list after his first kill.

No the bots scripts are consequently written for a multiplayer environment, so there is no such thing as 'the' player or his team.

But you could ofcourse add it

P.S. you can easily find all available level vars by typing 'levelvars' in console :)
