brushes multiplying upon each load of saved map????
Hoping for a little help with a problem that has plagued me from the beginning. I hope I am just missing an option in setup or a patch or something.
The problem. When ever I draw a building with a series of internal rooms and begin to texture them everything looks great untill I load it to continue to work on it the next time ( would love to do nothing all day but design maps
). The problem is that the program loads over top every brush with an exact copy of that brush. So if my total brushes after my building is build is 100, by my third load of the map, the total number of brushes is 300 and I have to go back and delete the other two layers. Not sure if this is normal because sometimes it covers over my textures with the origional 'calk' brush I started with. The result is half my map is textured and half shows calk. This is fustrating because my map gets to the point where I have 12000 brushes. I have started over 5 times. Please any and all help appreciated. Thanks,

I had a simluar problem at first
but I changed some of the defualt settings and now it dont do it
I think the last time was just before I turned off Autosave
I also had to tell to where the User INI path was to radiant.ini
I 'm not sure when it quit exactly
but I think it might have been then
setting changes are under Edit Preferances

Thanks Moal!! You rule 8) . All I changed was the uni path to radiant.ini and worked like it should. Renewed my faith in getting this map finished.
Much appreciated for the assistance.

brushes multiplying upon each load of saved map???? Again
Thought this was a solved problem. Maybe my system is possed, or maybe the powers that be don't want me to make maps, but I'm at my wits end.
I've tried what Moal suggested and have looked at settings till they seem to all blur in my mind, but everytime I load my map the brushes are multiplying over top of each other. I noticed that it appears to begin right after I start to use CSG subtract to make doors and windows. Wouldn't suck if I could create a map with out doors or windows, but that would be perty boring.
Please Please someone know anything that would help. I'll send a reward for your assistance. $50, $100...I'll go as high as $150 to solve this problem.
Please any and all help welcome and appreciated.

OK to start with - DON'T USE CSG SUBTRACT - AT ALL , EVER, FOR ETERNITY....I stress this in all my tutorials. CSG subtract seems like a nice easy method of creating holes in brushes but it creates so many unseen problems that it really is not worth using - I wish they would just remove the damn button from the editor......If u need to build a doorway then create a "door" brush and build the walls around it - then delete the door brush and voila - your left with a doorway. Same for windows or holes or whatever. Yes its a little more time consuming than csg - but it saves you from sooo many problems in the future......
I'll gladly send the money as soon as we can perform the exorcism and rid my system of this evil spirt lol. I did as you suggested Surgeon and and it seemed to work till I opened it this morning. Maybe kdja has something here because I have been using open then load under file. The problem is that open by itself doesn't seem to bring up my map. Open does something because I see the textures ( in the texture window) I have been using to that point, but in the 2d mode it doesn't seem to show my map. How should I bring up my map? I know I am missing something but it's like the longer I travel the wrong path the more lost I get ( sort of like misplacing your car keys and looking in the same spot for them even though you know they arn't there, but are supposed to be). Something that seems odd is the fact that when my map opens, everything is selected, all the brushes. Maybe this is normal.
I'll gladly send you all a check for the help. I just want to make maps for this great game and give back to the community if I can
.

if every brush is selected you laoding your map and using OPEN.
Use File Open and browse to your MAP file.
It should open with nothing selected.
If you are working on your map and use LOAD (say you screwed up it wil overwrite it self)
Literally it loads one map on top of the other ,if your map gets bigger each time you *overload* it wil get harder and harder to fix.

I do too Moal and my brushes multiply faster than a field full of rabbits at spring time. Maybe have setting or path wrong? I set up the path the way you suggested, and seemed to work for a bit, but then the population explosion began. I did away with using CSG and that gave me hope, but that quickly faded. <sigh>

O.k i hear lots n lots of things about the negativity of using CSG and i accept your supirior experience and knowledge surgeon but i have heard somewhere that if u use CSG when u r following a grid tightly i,e not for instance when your "offline" by that i mean on the grid, then u get no probs is this true or untrue.
Dont know if im explaining myself clearly enough ,i mean when for instance u aint CGS on clearly defined lines on the grid i.e grid5 that i always use.
p.s i go by your tuts n never use CGS but if we could establish a way that it could be used "safely" then what a benefit it would be to us all.
dooms.
