My first 3D model!

Post by Bjarne BZR »

I decided to learn how to model in Blender, and as a first I made a personal favourite car of mine, the DeLorean. Its a low-poly game model that weighs in at 148 polygons. And a single 128*128 texture map.

Check the link in the image :

Suggestions, improvements and insults welcome

Very nice :)

Maybe use a slightly more detailed texture map to make up for the lack of poly detail, though

Thanx :)

Maby I should explain the reasons behind the tight budget on the model: Some of the Gfx guys here at school had a low-poly contest in our forum a while back, and the budget was 200 polys, and two 128*128 textures.

So my idea was to give them a kick in the nuts by making an acceptable model a bit under that budget. If I ( a lowly programmer ) submit comparable material to theirs made in a program that I had never used before, that should inspire then to become even better.

Heh, nice one, Bjarne. ;) Although these five-angled wheels prevent me from saying it's acceptable... :? I mean, for a game, don't get me wrong.

He he, Ive got the 6-edged version of the weels in another layer, I used the 5-edge versions to lower the poly count 12 units (they used 5 as well). You have to think back to the days of Ignition here :) Or current 3D games on cellphones :)

Basically I can really recommend the exelent Blender tutorials "Noob to Pro" on WikiBooks.
And Blender is free despite the fact that it is comparable to Maya and 3D Studio and progs like that.

Cool! I was looking for a decent tutorial for Blender for quite a long time but couldn't find one, thanks, Bjarne! :)

Noob to Pro is a great starter, but as you approach pro level, its not always complete. But the "Standard" tutorials on www.blender3d.org and www.elysiun.com are good once you get past the noob stage :)
And after that you will know enough to make effective google searches for any questions you have :)

Dont think there are any MOH exporters for Blender, so I would need Milkshape or something like that. Anyway, I'm just learning modeling, never intended to get it into moh.

Would be nice however :)
