Just to say thanks and commend this site...

A transcript of what I was writiing to a fellow mapper when I realized it's how I feel about this community. Thought I'd share it.......

I think I'm probably one of the oldest guys around any of these forums. AA.com 'used' to be the best place for this game, mainly because it was one of the first. But the last six months it has gone to crap, too many idiots, mostly young teenagers that are more interested in flaming eachother, displaying four stupid-overdone sigs of half-naked chicks (not that I see half-naked chicks as bad), and useless replies like "cool...".

Anyway, this is by far the best place to get help. Great moderators and quite a few regular users who know some niche things. It feels nice to be able to help someone out now and then, but in this world, you are always learning new things. There is always one more step to take and if you don't crack an issue, someone else will. You never know what will be the one tiny step that propels an entire new idea. I'm actaully enjoying the mapping more than playing the game. I might play on-line four hours a week at most. Spend probably 20-30 on mapping stuff (probably more but that would scare me).

If my scripting skills were stronger I'd feel a lot better about my maps. BUT, the cool thing is that you can find someone around here to help. I think more and more guys will start to collaborate on projects/single maps. Not making full mods, just working together with their skills to compliment eachother and make better maps.

Enough soapbox. Thanks again.

Myself and many others have put a great deal of hard work into this site over the past year and I'm glad that people enjoy coming here because it makes it all worthwhile...Its also nice to see people who have come to the site as newbies and are now able to help answer a lot of questions.. :)

Yeah, thanks for the comments. AA.com really has all these? Boy! What has the world come to now? :P This site is a great place for newbies in mapping to post their questions.

If I ever leave mohaa some day, I'll remember it and this site till the day I die.....

Hmm... I thought I was about as old as they come. ~49

We have Surgeon and jv_map to thank for the success of .map. I rarely visit other forums for the very reasons you speak of. I visited quite a few before I found .map and was very dismayed in the way the forums were moderated and the lack of real help. Not to say that there wasn't any good information there, just you had to wade through a pile of crap to find it.

Another tool I have been excited about is the .map channel on IRC. We have been able to share real time help. This was Surgeon's idea and my hat is off to him.

I have learned a great deal in my 2 1/2 months of mapping experience and I have to thank .map for a great portion of it.
