Need HELP with SKY/ lighting.

Post by acdc992004 »

Im new at mapping. I made a few test maps already which came out pretty good. But this map is my first outdoor one. I need help setting the sky and sunlight. I followed the tutorial for this and it came out ok. BUT there a few problems.
1. There is a shadow line across the map where one side is day and the other one is all shadow.
2. WHen i look forward when i play, I see a "black roof" in the sky. Is this because there is no roof on Radiant. There seems to be no roof. But I don't remember taking or deleting it off. BUT when i look straight up i can see the sky as you normally would.(black box dissapears.)

Here is what i put for the sky
suncolor 70 70 70
sundirection -45 90 0
sunflarename sun
(Its the same as the tut)

Here are some screenshots of the problem

1. THe shadow line

2.The black box on the sky

A pic of Radiant in my 3d view. Is the sky roof supposed to be missing? And what can I do to correct this.

OK. Is the shadow line also related to the top of the skybox?

yes, the skybox needs to be just that, a box, a better explanation would be a sky-cube, but that doesn't ring the same way :P

it can be any shape too, for instance The Hunt's skybox has more than 100 edges to it. (i stopped counting at that)

about the shadowline, i'll dig up a topic about such a thing, it's a glitch with the light stage of MOH that a lot of new mappers experience. i've never had a problem with it but it seems to happen.

The shadow line is related to the fact there is no top on your skybox

Suncolor emits from sky surfaces at whatever angle is chosen - that black bit is where the top should light up :)

the walls are perfect, but you need a skyroof. Add this skyroof of the end of your map, first you need finnish the map to add things in the map. After that create the roof.
