Darn Snow

Post by PsychoE »

I have been playing with the numbers in the script to get snow to work properly.
There is snow coming down, but it only comes down in the area of the map i am in, and it will start,stop,start etc etc.

I have been checking out the tut's, forums and playing with the numbers. Almost ready to give up - what can I do??

I would like a nice dense constant flow.

(would fog hinder any snow?)

Thx

Also, when making door(s), i use "alwaysaway" and "1" but they seem to only open away from one side.

unrelated to my snow question, but..........

I found that snow can be very temperamental. It also can destroy the FPS. You can adjust level.rain_min_dist to get the effect to appear at greater distances from you, but you will soon see in console window that the engine has reached the max. Spearhead is more stable but easier to reach the max.

all my doors work great. Thanks all.

The snow is a different matter. it seems that if i change one number in the script, it affects all the other ones as well.

Snowy Forest in MOHAA uses:

Code: Select all

	level.rain_speed = "32"
	level.rain_speed_vary = "16"
	level.rain_length = "2"
	level.rain_width = "1"
	level.rain_density = ".2"
	level.rain_slant = "250"
	level.rain_min_dist = "1800"
	level.rain_numshaders = 12
Bastogne in Spearhead uses:

Code: Select all

	level.rain_speed = "40"
	level.rain_speed_vary = "4"
	level.rain_length = "2"
	level.rain_width = "1"
	level.rain_density = ".4"
	level.rain_slant = "1"
	level.rain_min_dist = "512"
	level.rain_numshaders = 12

Set the angle of the alwaysaway door key to get it to work properly.

The alwaysaway doesn't have any effect on the func_rotating door...trust me!!

The reason that some rotating doors doesn't open away are generally that there's a leak and that the angle must be set.

When you make a func_rotating door always make sure that the origin brush only overlaps the door. It should not overlap any other brush, if you do that and it's a structural brush you will get a leak. Also make sure the the origin brush isn't higher then the door brush or goes down into the floor.

Then when you apply func_rotatingdoor, select the door brush and then the origin brush -> give it func_rotatingdoor. If the door (the large flat sides) are faceing the angle 180 - 360 then you don't need to do anymore.

If the flat sides of the door are faceing the angles 90 - 270, then select the func_rotatning door and press N, then press 90 so that the angle is set to 90. That will prevent the door from leaking. I've noticed that doors not facing 180-360 generally leaks if the angle isn't set (but they might still work ok).

That's why you have to set the angle of the door.
