Does Anybody Know How To Do This ???

Post by Hitman »

I have seen a map the has custom text on the walls and it is too small to have been created by any brush I know. So I am going to put a couple of pictures below and I was wondering if anybody would be able to tell me if they know how this was done and how to do it for myself. Thank You.

Sorry about the brightness my picture editor was acting werid.

make it a targa, (.tga) copy the image, and turn to black and white via photoshop.

save as two separate images, there's some shader coding that needs to be done as well but i dont know it.

Decal

Post by tltrude »

Try a decal shader. With those you can apply it right over an exsisting surface with an overlapping brush or patch mesh.

Here is a simple one you can modify.

Code: Select all

textures/decals/1st_floor
 {
	polygonOffset
	{
		map textures/decals/1st_floor.tga
		blendfunc blend
		alphagen vertex
		rgbgen identify
 	}
 }
It is just a text file with the shader extention (.shader), and it goes in a folder named "scripts" in "main". You still need to make a tga image as well.

First off thank you guys for the replies this forum is always the most help.

But Lizardguy I don't have photoshop is there away I could do this with paint. And if there is could you maybe post a screen shot of the two different .tga you are talking about.

Please.

Lol, paint is too simple to support alpha channel. Get The GIMP - it's comparable with Photoshop and it's free.

Thank you for that file but I still need some help on creating the .tga files I know nothing about paint, gimp or photoshop. Please could some buddy walk me threw it. Or if I give you the text I want to make would somebody be willing to make it for me. I would prefer to be walkthough so I can do it in the future myself.
