Script_Models vs. Static Models in MOHAA

Post by Sure_Shot »

If you can bear yet another novice modder's questions - I searched the forums and found bits of the answers I seek but I'd greatly appreciate a direct response.

I have used scipt mods to add mg42 and even vehicles to several of MOHAA's included dm and obj maps. I will eventually begin using the many tools I've downloaded to begin creative mapping - but for now I just enjoy testing how small mods to a map (like mg42 in the church steeple in Crossroads) can dramatically change the dynamics of team play.

Would like to add crates or sandbags to block certain paths. I've read that the items in Models/Static have to be compiled into .bsp files and can't be called by scripts. Is there a way to use script_model to add any of those static objects?

Script model:

model
modelpath.tik
Live to map, not map to live.

I take it you're adding models to stock maps by script. If you spawn any TIKI, which by the way also applies for adding models in a map, the classname of the script_model will be overwritten by the classname of the TIKI file. So, if you add a script_model with the mg42 model, the game will automatically recognize it as a turret gun.

You cannot spawn static models in your map by script, as they use vertex lighting which has to be caculated at map compile stage.
