new mobo

Post by lizardkid »

I've picked up lots of parts to acomputer, in fact i have most all i need for a new one, and not a crappy one either. mainly what i need are a motherboard and a power supply.

i saw this thread:
http://dynamic.gamespy.com/%7Emap/mohaa ... hp?t=10300

I'm a complete noob to mobos and power supplies, i tried lookin around Newegg but got lost in the jargon :(

can anyone suggest a halfway decent motherboard (and/or) powersupply? it doesnt have to be much, but enough to say, play MOHAA on. (as a reference)

price range: $80 - $150

thanks

for the ressurected comp?

rough specs:

no mobo/CPU/powersupply
nVidia 800 MX GeForce 2 vid card (not sure about the number, but this is basically what it is)
512 RAM
10 gb HDD

like i said it's a basic computer, it's mainly for school/any work etc. but i want it to be able to handle being a game server as well, i'm considering it at least.

You still didn't tell us what's your CPU. And what kind of RAM is it.

junk

Post by tltrude »

Sorry, but your collection of old junk wont cut it with todays new games--the vid card would even struggle with Mohaa. BTW, 128 times two is 256 of ram (probably SD p600 Ram--slow stuff).

You should try to sell the old parts on ebay--wont get much. You will never find a useable motherboard with a CPU and memory installed for $150 or less. Just look on ebay for a whole computer (case and all). Another suggestion would be to look at the DELL used computers.

Ps: Everyone has a drawer full of old part. I have a Dell P3 733Hz with a Gforce3 card sitting behind me collecting dust too.

If they're from '98 than just like tltrude said, you can trash them. You won't find a decent mobo supporting such oldies now.

If I were you I'd try to save up for an AMD64. ;)
