See the texture on one side, see-thru from the other side...

Post by Goldeneye090 »

Hey all,

I want to make a small part of a wall in my map only visable from one side...so you see the texture as if it were just part of the wall. But I'm making a hidden passage to the other side of that wall where I want anyone there to be able to see through the small portion of the wall, as if it were glass but not glass, just see-thru. I've tried multiple options in the surface editor. How should something like this be done?

Try using a patch mesh. You may end up making the entire wall out of patch mesh because brushes and patch don't always end up with the same lighting--people will see the difference.

Use four brushes. 3 walls, 1 of them above door, make the 4th the door. only texture one side of it. make a trigger on one side. this will allow the door to slip inside of wall instead of opening the way doors usually do. it shouldn't look bad if you can make the "door" a little skinnier than the walls. pillars may help here ? so might different thickness walls. don't know what you map looks like. doing this you may want to texture inside of wall so you don't see through it all.
