Nah, do a search on 'VIS' in the tutorial section of this site. It explains some stuff about the VIS (visibility) stuff which is a very important thing for the FPS.

Too many models or meshes in your map may cause a bad FPS.
Brushes are very usefull to improve your FPS (it's all discribed in the tutorials), you just need to use them right.

I'll say it simply:
A way to increase your FPS is to have a lot of rooms, this can be real rooms like in buildings. Or invisible rooms (they ain't real living rooms but those will cut your map in several pieces). If you are inside one room, other rooms 'can' be not drawn in the game so your FPS will increase.
If you got an open map with just some stuff like models and a lot of terrain or something like will cause a low FPS because it's just one big room. An inside map (like the v2 rocket map) with a lot of rooms will increase the FPS a lot because the compiler can cut the map in a lot of pieces so stuff won't show up when you can't see it.

Also an important thing is to use caulk. Every face (on burshes) you can't see in the game can be not drawn. To do this, give the useless faces a caulk texture (you can find it under common).

The VIS compile is also very important. (There are several qualities)

Well just do a search on VIS, VIS_leafgroup, (Area)Portals, compiling and you'll find a lot of usefull stuff.

At http://gronnevik.se/rjukan/ you can find a lot of info to increase the FPS.

:) Caulk is meh best friend!!! :) <<< sad I know >>> lol

When I build a house (or something small like a shed or flowerholder) I will make it first in caulk... then I will go over each wall and apply the texture if the user is going to see it :) I leave the walls that people wont see in the caulk texture!!! :) and wallah, caulked to perfection :)
