Tutorial image size

Post by Innkeeper »

We have quite a few tutorials with images to help visually explain certain aspects of the methods we present. We use a thumbnail of the image that links to a larger image that is easier to see. I would like to get feedback, especially from those that are not using broadband, on the size they prefer.

I take it that's the full size image and not the thumb ;).

Keep it smaller due to the sizes of peoples resolutions, that just basic web building tip. But if you need to show detail, don't do like I've seen some sites where they take a full screenshot, shrink it to 600x480 and expect ppl to read the fine print.

Id say 800 X 600 cause its not to big, but not to small to not be able to see details.

I'd love to find a target="_blank" in the image-link!
wouldn't make too much work, would it?!

I mean, when writing the html-code and adding the hyperlink to the larger image, you should do it this way:
<a href="url large picture" target="_blank">small picture</a>
The code for the small image is of course wrong, but this forum engine always wanted to display a picture...

This way, the large image would open in a new window.

AAYYEEeeeeeee.. God I hate that!!! We (the staff) jumped on Surgeon for doing just that before launching the new site. It can make sense to have that for the tutorials, but it is just as easy for the viewer to right click on the link and select "Open in New Window".
