Of course you need a script! As you read your tuts, you collect advanced script and put 'em together, then you'll have a script.

Well rox, that's not completely true. YES, you can run a map without any script at all.

Scripts are used to control various aspects of the game. Even if it is as simple as just adding text for the scoreboard. A very basic deathmatch script generally does little else other than add text to the scoreboard and setup a few parameters if the game is round based. To get your map to have more functionality, such as rain, ambient sounds, or bots just to name a few, additional scripting is required.

Yes, in MP, not necessarily you need a script, but a script can use ambient sounds, rain, exploders like InnKeeper said. But in SP, you definetly need a script.

Ai scripting is strange to me. I may not be a C+ guru but i know what scripting is. I guess i just don't understand where all the scripts go when i'm done writing them. Do they ALL have to be located in the maps scr packed in the map's pk3? And can I have just preset ai so i don't have to script them?

They have to be where your maps are, e.g mohaa\main\maps with your bsp, vis, min, prt blahblah and .scr

Try to give your map name a test_xxx and put your .scr with your .bsp in your mohaa\main\maps folder for an SP.
