Farview options. Farplane settings to hide treeline?

Post by Sgt KIA »

My map has treelines, they are made out of detailed brushes, at each side. Its a foggy map. However im able to see treelines at each end of the map no matter how low i set farplane settings. Its like in this picture. The treeline can be seen through terrain.

Ive tested farplane_cull 0 & 1 but theres no change in the game imo. Any other tips how to make treelines to show up smoothly?

i don't have an answer kia other than to say that treeline looks good like it is in the image. if you drive through valley forge national park in the winter mornings when there's a fog it looks just like that in the far distance .
i'm not f****** angry, i'm from philadelphia .

It surely looks good in the game, but only when youre close enough. However, when you look at it from far away its the brush that points out too well.

Another shot, a better one. See the gray block? Thats a fence and the treeline is behind it. Doesnt look good to me at all.

Can't you guys see there's a big grey rectangle obscuring the treeline?

I suppose it's a question of the farplane. Try cutting the fence into smaller brushes.

Will that do for the treeline also, ie. is it a common knowledge to draw treelines using several brushes instead of one?

I would say it is. The problem is, the farplane effect is constant along the whole length of a brush.

For example. You have a grey farplane at 1000 units and a brush that is 2000 units long. You stand at one end, the other disappears in the fog. But! The whole brush is grey, because a part of it is already far enough to be affected by fog. Is this understandable? ;)
