Post by m4rine »

Hi,

Just thought I'd drop in, see how everyone is doing, and who remembers me lol, hi to all the old .map crew when I was a regular visiter, and of course all the new members since then, hope you are all doing well :)

I may be getting back into mapping but a bit more part-time :P

See you all around,

cod2 looks great, and feels pretty good, but the maps shipped blow. Also some of the default game functions are crap too. Should be moddable into a really good game though.

has anyone tried mapping for BF2 yet ? thought HL2 would be the next logical step but don't see too many website clan servers for it.

as far as i know custom maps are still kinda a non issue in bf2, people playing on them dont get points, because its not a ranked server. So basicaly its like MOH, vere low percentage currently see custom maps.

There are plenty of custom maps i hear... but ive never played one, and if i go back and play the game again(assuming same rules) I wont be playing them then.

In short, EA finds a way to make anything suck.

plus I think everything is model based, which is kinda annoying in its own way.

COD2 on the other hand, uses a new radiant, but has yet to release or give an eta for release(i believe) for the radiant, so is basicaly just watching thier mod base filter away to certain extents. They are supposedly patching sometime in 2006 though, i didnt read the full stuff maybe they mentioned the editor.

Well the maps can look really good but you have to use models , no brushes . You can't make tunnels terrain does not allow holes . You have to be a 3d artist to make player models and have 3dmax or something . They have a gmax gamepack but they don't support it very well they cater to the 3dmax and maya users . Information is per usuall with an ea game none in other words just an ea guy at gofrag trying to figure it out and talking to dice . But mainly the ones who know don't write tuts for modeling it is pretty hard to do to start with .
