clipping problem

Post by just_die »

im trying to make a wall in my map that looks as if it is blown up on one side. On that side i want to make the existing wall so taht you can walk up it and get to the top. I know you have to use clipping to do this. The clipping function only works on the 2d map. My 2d map is from straight above so i cannot do anyclipping from the horizontal view. If thats confusing...im sry. help me with that please. Im sry about all these gay questions but im learning
nothing

you're in the place to ask questions. try and get into the habit of taking screen shots of your problem and posting them, it really helps. instead of cliping the wall to look destroyed try just building the wall with multiple brushes, angling the ends of some of the brushes at various degrees.
i'm not f****** angry, i'm from philadelphia .

The way I understand your question is that you can't change 2D views in the editor, and your stuck looking down on your map from the top. To change from the top view to say the front or side, hold down "cntrl" and "tab."

If you are working with vertices a lot, then this might be helpful to you. You may already know this, but it couldn't hurt to say it anyway. With a brush selected, press "v" to edit the vertices. Then you can just drag and drop them. That should help because you won't have to keep on clipping brushes.

Hope this helps.

I use the 3rd layout of radiant:

U can select this in ur radiant's preferences. There u'd have all 3 2d-views.

Also, be careful with the clipping tool, it can cause radiant crashes and/or bad brushes. Frequent saving is recommended!
As mentioned above, u could try to edit ur brush in "vertex editing mode" or "edge editing mode": Select ur brush and press "v" respectively "e". They need some practice though, so better do some trial (and error) in a test map first 8-)
And, whatever u do: try to stay on the grid...
