Custom Sky x Ambient Light

Post by mcunha98 »

I maked a custom sky in Terragen.
In development my sky is completylly black (the ground of sky, because the match ocurr into the night).

When i start my map and my sky its loaded, the all sky appearance have influency of ambient light parameters.

In my shader, i define some directives to not have influency, but dont work, some idea ???

Code: Select all

textures/sky_98lombardo/sky_98lombardo
{
	qer_editorimage textures/sky_98lombardo/sky_98lombardo.tga
	qer_keyword sky
        qer_keyword sky_98lombardo
	surfaceparm noimpact
	surfaceparm nolightmap
	surfaceparm sky
	surfaceparm nomarks
	q3map_globaltexture
	skyParms textures/sky_98lombardo/sky_98lombardo - -
}

black

If you want a sky that is all black, use the common "caulk sky" texture and add this to your worldspawn properties.

Key: farplane_color
Value: 0 0 0

Or, you can add farplane color to the top of your script--color can be changed without compile.

$world farplane_color "0 0 0"

Is this really something extraordinary? It'll be just pitch black.

caulk sky uses the farplane color so it is black if you use 0 0 0 but in some of the single player night maps they set the farplane color to more of a dark blue sort of like a moon lit night . Of course they also use a night sky as well . Just setting the ambient light , farplane color and also in some cases setting the sun color to a dark blue color can have some unique effects .

We still can't understand what the problem is. The sky looks good to me.

Great TLTrude,

This is the problem !
If you repair, the sky have a green touch, in true, is dark blue.
And the ground of map, is a black texture, but when i start my map, have another look (more to gray with green texture mixed).

If you have 5 minutes of your precious time :cry, please see the map for understand: :

green

Post by tltrude »

Well, I looked at the sky and at the jpg images for the sky and they are both the same green color. I think you should leave it green because it looks very good. Add this to your script, and I think you will like the farplane color and distance.

$world farplane_color "0.32 0.43 0.37"
level.fogplane = 8500
$world farplane level.fogplane

I think the map is to bright, but that may just be my settings. Also, the shadows are in the wrong direction for where the moon is.

If you want your sky blue, you will have to adjust the color of the six jpg images. But as I said, your map looks good with a green sky.

Hope that helps.
