New Job

Post by Jack Ruby »

I am looking for a new job, I saw one that came up today, my dream job, the things they make are truly superb, I love what they do, I could learn a lot from them. I applied, doubt I will hear from them but its gotta be worth trying.

I made this portfolio page cos they wanted you to send
a link to your website:

http://www.spydr.co.uk/portfolio

I think I must be in with at least a chance, wish I could work there :(

if you get an interview and are sitting there in the lobby with other applicants...at some point simply stand up, walk over to the nearest trash receptacle, knock off the lid, climb on top of it the canister (after dropping your drawers) and take a massive dump. stare at the other applicants the whole time (much like mr. joshua did in lethal weapon when the lighter was applied to the bottom of his arm). let them you know you mean business and are there to get the job not just be interviewed.

it's how i got my sales job at Texas Instruments. granted i had to first clean out said receptacle but my coworkers never knew when i might go off and therefore didn't bother me with retarded birthday meetings in the breakroom and ''hey we're all going to TGI Fridays for a big gay afterwork drink" invitations. they knew i was there simply to provide my talents .
i'm not f****** angry, i'm from philadelphia .

Thanks for the compliments, I work my ass off, always trying to learn new tricks.

The job is at maybe the best design agency in London so I guess there is gonna be hundreds of applicants, many of them mucho better than me, but I must be in with at least an outside chance,

if you dont shoot, then you dont score, so nothing lost by applying for it,

just keeping my fingers crossed :)

Nice collection of work Jack! If you don't get it, it just means there's a better job waiting on you. Or should I say "Deferred Success":
The idea introduced in the UK that there is no such thing as failure, only deferred success. :P

Good luck

Well I didnt hear back from that job so far,

I did have an interview at another place today though,
3 of them grilling me, I did ok, coulda done much better.

only question that threw me off balance was when they
asked what the process is that we go through to produce
one of our things(we is me and the 4 dudes I work with).

We dont have any process at all, its chaos, no one knows
what they are doing and I struggle to hold it all together.

So all I could think of without a half hour delay was
"we dont have a process, its chaos"

I wont say that next time :)

One thing that should cheer you guys up, I have that I make maps on my CV, they were really interested in the 3d thing, they have a guy that uses 3D studio, I told them all I ever made in 3D studio was rifles.

I wont say that next time :)

So it was amusing and I learned what I shouldnt say at my next interview.

lying

Post by tltrude »

Sounds like you are learning to lie to get what you want. Is that truely the path you wish to take? Wouldn't it be better to learn leadership and more about 3D studio? In the next interview, you would not have to lie because you can say with pride, "I am learning more and more about those things everyday!"

I think your instinct for honesty was correct.

honesty is good, but flavour couldnt hurt =p

'To the untrained eye, it would appear a chaotic process of birth and creation... but, as with all things, the chaotic and volatile nature of our early developement serves to strike down the weaker ideas; the old, the infirm, and those doomed to reach too far and fall short, leaving a strong base perpetually feeding upon itself, pushing itself into maturity as the strongest possible representitive of its species!"

ok maybe not. ;)

there's a fine line everyone has to walk between lying and telling selective truths. the closer you come to the latter, the more you're risking and the more you'll gain. the further you go to the former, the less you have to risk.
