Sorry Tom, I know this one is off topic again but its kinda related to the new style graffiti earlier in the thread, I couldnt believe what I was seeing, amazingly brave(or amazingly stupid):

Tagging Airforce One
Philip II of Macedon sent a message to Sparta:
"If I win this war, you will be slaves forever."
The Spartan ephors sent back a one word reply: "If".

No one risked their life to deface Airforce One--it was a fake video.

"...the viewer of the preceeding are hereby advised that the video does not depict a real event. It is intended for the sole, limited and express purpose of entertainment and to induce you, the viewer of the video, to think critically about freedom of expression and speech and the government's responses to the same. Therefore, and by reason of the foregoing, the producers, creators and distributors of this video hereby verily certify that the foregoing fictionalization and dramatization was not real."

This is kind of cool, I've seen the keyboards before but not a monitor and CPU contained in 2 large looking pens.

HERESY!

bad enough they want to take awy the keyboard... but a fake keyboard? I dont even like touch screens... but that picture is like evil incarnate! I like keyboards, and I like the damn keys to go up and down, and all the 'convienencing' they are doign to keys on boards, is annoying!

completely silent keyboards are also creepy.

if my grandfather was 20-35, he would say the same thing.

"Back in MY day, we had keyboards that CLICKED! you could feel the keys go up and down, like REAL KEYS, not this holographic light emitting crap they're maknig now! too newfangled! too quiet and creepy, I WANT MY 1998 WHITE KEYBOARD BACK."

Robot Chair

Post by tltrude »

Now this one is silly, but it is touted to be more "Dynamic Art" than robotics.

Personally, I think the dudes over at Cornell have too much time on their hands! When its done, it will probably walk across the room too, ha ha.

Is that for real? If that is actualy using an AI(of some sort) to reassemble itself, I am impressed.

Real

Post by tltrude »

It is real. If you click on the chair image above, it will show you the web site. The same Canadian artist (Max Dean) collaborated with engineer Raffaello D'Andrea in the design of an "intelligent" robotic table that uses sensors and hidden locomotive apparatus to select a single viewer and follow him or her around the gallery -- furniture as some kind of star-smitten pet. Click the image below to see a video of how it works.

Below is a review about another work of robotic art (by Russian artist Sergei Shutov), that mentions the table, and seems to confuse the art critic--he is not sure whether a robot's actions can be considered "Preformance Art". Forty crouching robots, draped in black, praying in numerous languages and faiths would confuse me too, lol!

God, I hope those two artists never get together! A Robot draped in black, following people around would scar them for life, ha ha!

I thought this was very cool, Liquid Body Armour, its kevlar coated with a liquid, is only slightly heavier than regular cloth and bullets bounce off it:

http://www.break.com/index/newarmor23.html

edit: I have played around with liquid solids before, you can do an experiment with "Birds Custard Powder" I cant remember the ratio of water to add to the powder but once you got it right, you can pour it like a liquid but if you try to jam your fingers into it, it becomes solid, just like the kevlar coating above.

Just found a link for the custard trick, its number 2 in the list of experiments on this page:

MIDAS

Post by tltrude »

Well, this may be more fun than sticking your fingers in custard. Here is a website that shows how some MIT freshmen fix up there door rooms. I like the "Party Mode" button idea! Scroll down to the flash videos -- "...typical Thursday night party" is the best one.
