Using custom skins with bots

Post by johnnymiller »

Hi folks. I am seeking advice on how to replace the standard skins on jv's bot maps. Have found that force model work fine for human player and will not work for the bots. Tried using the command jvbot_forcemodels which only seems to select one certain skin for each side, pilot skin for allies, officer skin for the axis. Any help with this would be very much appreciated.

It can be done by script, but 1st tell me:

What you mean by "replace"? Do you have a custom skin and want to use it as a jvbot?

Or you just want to choose which regular skins will be used?

if you place the model into the map, I think it will be used as one of the possible bot models. :?

Was wanting the bots to use customs skins. Making an assumption here from the last reply that the only way is to add skins into the jvbot PK3 file. Unlike with human players, bots wont wear custon skins when using force model in mulitplayer options. Have added some skins into the jvbot PK3 file already and they dont get used by the bots. Guess I may have to remove some of the regular game skins from the PK3 file. Im new to all this so learning as I go. Hope to hell this made sense. :?

1st don't put anything inside jv's pk3. Put your custom tiks inside MOHAA/main/models/human folder.

Well, assuming you want these bots in an already existing bots map, let's do it by script:

Bots maps have the models placed in the map w/ the targetnames "alliesspawnpreset" and "axisspawnpreset". So let's get rid of these models first and then, spawn your custom models. Below level waittill spawn, paste this part of script:

level waittill spawn

waitthread cleanbots
thread spawn_bots

end

cleanbots:

$alliesspawnpreset remove
$axisspawnpreset remove

end

spawn_bots:

spawn human/multiplayer_allied_1st-ranger_captain.tik "targetname" "alliesspawnpreset"

spawn human/multiplayer_german_afrika_NCO.tik "targetname" "axisspawnpreset"

end

Note that I spawned 1 allied model and 1 german model. To spawn your tiks, replace the part "human/multiplayer_yourtikhere.tik". Notice that your tiks have to start w/ the name multiplayer_blabla.tik. If your model is an aliied model, use the targetname "alliesspawnpreset" and, if it's a axis, use "axisspawnpreset"

Hi all. Thanks for the help. Will use script as suggested. Had already placed the tiks in the main folder under "human". No trouble taking them back out of the jvbot PK3. Using the script help from Kane (much appreciated) to achieve the desired result.

Looking forward to bots 2, absolutely!! :D

Bringing the past back to life here. Gave up on trying to put new skins on bots sometime back. After reading more threads about custom bot skins etc today, finally had success. Just like to thank the knowledgeable people on here that have helped myself and others when trying to get our heads around these uhmmm, challenges.

Can you help me Johnny?
I have also been pulling my hair out trying to put my custom skins on bots for months.
I have managed to get a couple of my skins in the game( by trying to convert the skins Player folder over to Human folder with anim.) but, they just stand there and you can walk thru them.

I am close, anybody??
