Hybrids

Thinkin about buying a Hybrid.....

Toyota Prius, my peeling out and racing daz are history. These things get 60 miles per gallon hiway. Plus you get a tax break. Anyone hear anything negitive bout these?

Haven't heard much but then again Im from Texas, trends start on the east or west coast and work their way to the middle.

if you live in a how place the batteries fry within 2 years is what i heard. you have to replace them every 5 anyway, but they're pretty expensive.

i think it evens out the gas cost tho, if not give you a little edge.

The Toyota Prius has an eight-year/100,000-mile warranty on the battery and hybrid systems and a three-year/36,000-mile warranty on everything else.

u cud get a filter and use stuff from mcdonalds and chip shops.

glad ur thinkin about it tho. I wish they would ban cars!

I like the idea Hog, but I think you should wait a year or so, let them iron out all the bugs, you know there has to be some.

Yeah, you never know if there are problems when something starts out.
I'd definitely get a Hybrid, but I'm a super-cheap-and-affordable-piece-of-crap kind of guy.

I would hope the priceso n hybrids drops in the next 5 years, but Im not sure it will...

Between R&D and the current economic climate those things are still pretty pricey arent they?

Any bugs would be the least of my concerns, I havent heard people complaining en masse about hybrids breaking down... and just liek any new car purchase, thats what warranties are for.

One thing that would concern me bug related though, is the computer. I dont know emission laws anywhere but new york, but the computers that regulate and report emissions are notoriously bad, and even harder to fix if they are faulty. Even worse, the best you can do without fully replacing the cars computer is get a 1 year exemption for inspection if you have paid something like 200+ dollars in an attempt to fix it already. And that one year, is just that, a one time thing. If you cant get the computer to report correctly next time, your done without shelling out for a whole new system. Anything new like this I would wonder about if somethings going to go wrong inside that computer, since I have no clue how it works, and it must be more 'sophisticated' then a standard car.

yeah going from a 5.0 to a 1.5 liter engine scares me but what I'd save in gas and the tax break would be substancial.

And as far as the next generation I think thats at least 5 years off, he he time to pay off the $21,500

Experts think in the end, hybrids are probably a transition technology. Hydrogen or methane fuel cell powered cars are probably the cars of the future.

Experts think; no post 84' automobile's computer's brain can withstand an EMP.

Tod say; best keep a back-up.

But for now, we are not talking about a back-up, nor survivalism( yes we are!!, price of gas!), so do it!!

I saw a car show last night, they were running this little car with hydrogen fuel cells, the only exhaust was water, they produce the hydrogen on this small japanese island that has enormous amounts of rainfall every year, they have a huge hydro electric plant, the island only uses 30% of its output so they use the excess to produce hydrogen, so its a totally green product, it was amazing, I think I saw the future, they were also talking about having solar panels on your roof at home to be used for the hyrdrogen generation, very very cool.

Wow! Japan's over there trying to really make some advancements and we in America are still trying to pretend that we'll never run out of oil. Because it would be oh-so-terrible if our super-rich gas companies suddenly were unable to sell gas.

... Don't get me wrong. I know there are lots of people that really are trying to make advancements in the USA, they're just not very powerful people.

The plants that produce hydrogen-fuel are powered by oil, coal, or electricity.
It is not a cure-all.Do some more research.......

Alcohol fuel,,,,hmm, we can grow it!

Tod, the plant producing the hydrogen, its turbines were driven by water, so it was a totally green setup, very cool.

That is really outstanding.Excellent really.

Hogleg should invest in the hybrid. Once enough poineers like him buy a hybrid, then our capitolist system wil begin to cater to that market( instead of oil).
