I'd say it's a cool idea to get a hybrid. One thing that's not so cool about them is that all of those cars are relatively big.
About the price, yeah, that sure isn't cheap, but that's the wrong way to think about it. The real problem is that the 'normal' cars are way too cheap: we only have to pay for that gas (which is, let's be honest, still much too cheap), but not for the CO2 emissions, which is a big mistake (well, in the end we will all pay for the CO2, of course "/ ).

Too many ppl think that when we run out of gas, we can just change to hydrogen, which is not true. It does take very much energy (most of it by oil or gas thus emitting CO2) to produce it - the plant mentioned above might produce enough for a small amount of cars. And besides we'll have to deal with the emissions of NOx resulting from use of hydrogen...

Meanwhile, why not try to more often use public transport, bike, feet, train instead of cars and planes?

I agree that we should do something about the bad emissions. It's gonna be a hell if we keep going like this. However everybody can help the environment by using minimum electricity, which will even safe money. Don't use the car for anything like IvaN said, use public transport or just have a walk. And if you are using a car, dont use a fat 5L/mile engine (me looks at the US) and use good filters, there are filters and other tricks to lower your CO2 emission, many cars dont have them, it would be a good thing when that would be obligated to all cars.
Many say we cant repair the damage we made with with all the emissions but we can tho, if we are fast enough we can still fix a huge part we damaged, just simply by planting trees! a lot of trees, there are already organisations doing this only for fixing the environment which is a very good thing, with this they try to get the CO2 in the sky back to neutral.

Nowadays we can't without transport, we need goods from anywhere and people have to go everywhere atm. I dont like it that all this transport is emitting bad gasses which cause damage and problems in the environment, well I think nobody likes that, however many people dont really care about it or they don't really realise it when they emit bad gasses themself. I really hope for a good solution, I hope new fuel (or whatever) very soon, which doesnt emit harmful gasses, and if it does there should be a filter to bring the emission back to 0 and the fuel shouldnt be too expensive and it mustn't get scarce after some time like oil. Im really hoping that cold fusion in daily life will be reality, as it doesnt need much energy to get the process started and it is clean, safe, it has no bad emmissions, no bad radiations and no dangerous radioactive waste products. The only product by cold fusion is helium which is safe for humanity and ofcourse a lot of energy =).

I wanted to get myself a cool car once, a subaru impreza WRX to be right, but now after thinking, realising and talking with others I must admit with a pain in my heart that Im not very sure about it anymore, as it's a fuel slurper and I dont wanna fuck up the environment. Unless an alternative environment friendly fuel will show up in the future, my dream will become true

I live at least 13 miles( 16km.??) from the nearest highway, at least 8 miles from nearest store.
I also own/ operate a painting company with two vans on the road almost everyday.

Then I have the family vehicle...

Gas is bad for the earth but, I do not believe that raising prices is any answer.

Excuse me? 2H2 + O2 = 2H2O, there's no N involved.

depends on which hydrogen engine you mean, leszek.
you're right about the water with the fuel cell, but not with the piston engine: you let the hydrogen react with normal air, which mainly consists of N. The pressure and the temperature is so high, that not only the O gets burned, but also parts of N --> NOx

look, I'm not saying that you mustn't use cars, what shockes me is that (at least here) about 60% (!!) of the trafic is not for work, but for spare time stuff

I cannot get my father(72?) to walk farther than an 1/8 of a mile.

Theres lots of places in the US if you don't have a car your screwed, too spread out and the public trans does suck.

My best friend just got back from Austria and he said they asked an old man of 82 years for directions and this guy jumps on a bike and said follow me, my buddy said they could barely keep up with him in their cab! My buddy said they were freakin out. He lead the on a 5 mile journey and didn't seem to be breathing that hard.....unbelievable.

We definitly need to get out and exercise more, thatts why theres so many fat americans. Im 6'2 180 Lbs and I seriously can't jog around the block lol

and the car, don't think I can really afford 23,000 dollars. Looking at the Toyota Scion tC its 17,700 http://www.scion.com/ for the one I want. Hybrids are just too damn expensive right now for me.

now i just heard that GM got this offer: when you buy one of their huge cars (and i really mean huge) till like end of june, you only pay around 2$ for the gas till 2007... how's that possible??? are they f**king insane?!

and im so worried about the stuff that i go to russia by train (60 hours) instead of plane (4 hours)

Last I heard, the price of gas per gallon is only 19 cents in Venezuala, 14 cents in Kuwait.

I have stated before that you "assume" much, but I would also like to say that you seem to be very intelligent and are usually correct.

I agree with your observation of what I said.
I am really quite into alternitive(sp?) energy and what they call "modern home-steading"(<<self-suffeciency(sp?)),,

But this really enrages my about the price we pay for our gas;
