What did you do then mate?

Build a ladder out of brushes. Then make a single brush, let's call this a 'plate', just in front of the ladder with the same high as the ladder (like in the image). Give the plate a ladder texture (you can find it under textures/common/). Then highlight this plate, hit N, make it func_ladder and give it a value for the direction. That's all.

This image will explain you how to make a working ladder.

check your angle value....
notice according to the value 'keys' in the bottom right, you want to select the one your player entity would have to face (face the pole, ladder.....)

thanks for the good laugh. make your actual ladder out of textured brushes (don't texture with common/ladder, texture with whatever texture you want players to see) and then surround the ladder brushes with a single brush (usually 16u away from all sides except the ''back'', 16u also from top is good) highlight this brush, texture with common/ladder, right click and click on func_ladder. asign your key & value

I will attempt to explain the ladder making process the best way I can:

Initially construct your ladder:
Image

Next texture your ladder to your satisfaction and then create a brush like the next picture and texture it with comon/ladder, overlap the ladder itself by a fair margin in width, height and depth as the next pic shows, then select your new brush (with the comon/ladder texture) and right click and select "function ladder"
Image

now you should press "N" button - the entity button which will bring up a new menu offering possible angles for this ladder, now this is vital as to whether your ladder works or not.
In your top screen of radiant after your ladder brush is selected and you have pressed "N" you should see a set of possible angles you can select and hopefuly the next picture should help you select the correct value:

Hopefuly this will point you in the right direction and good luck in the future.

Your ladders should look like the second pic, In your pic, Your brush is invisble because of the texture you put on it,
Im guessing some kind of caulk :?

Nice lil tut Imagination, Follow Imaginations tut and you should be fine

Don't overlap the ladder.

Pull the "ladder brush" so it's about 2 units... AWAY FROM... the ladder itself. Also make it about 4 units thick.

Also make the "ladder brush" about 12 units taller than the ladder or you won't be able to climb all the way up.

Work with the angles a little to get it to work.......
