I had that virus about a year ago. And norton could not get rid of either. Ended up reformatting just as you did. One thing I did manage to do was find out where the virus came from. It was from a file I downloaded off kazaa. 3dsmax. Learned my lesson on trying obtain warez :)

hehe, i wish i could say that it was that .....but it was all my own doing .....

About 3-4 month ago i was given old knackereed work PC {p75 32mb edo..etc}
Anyway i decided to salvage it and keep for parts e.g hd cdrom ...so last week i was running a bit low on hd and thougt ....ah i`ll jsut stick that old drive in ....and thats where the bugger come from....me thinks

So next time someone offers you an old pc ...think twice before putting parts in your system..... :cry:

After loads of silly reinstalls and viruses i finally snapped.
And created a 2nd partition on my PC for every program and game.
I have XP alone on C drive nothing else so if i get MBR virus ,registry corruption ,a quick reformat and reinstall of C drive and im back in buisness.
granted some programs must be reinstalled but not all of them.
And keep the original setup.exe in the folder where the program is .

you can rebuild a MBR using the recovery console using the windows XP cd i think you use the command ...e.g. c:\fixmbr c:
anyhow if you type help you`ll find all sort of goodies for fixing a corrupeted XP boot,

anyhow ....my pc is back to norm now and im designing a new map not SP ...a DM plain simple but damn playable....will post pics soon
maybe i`ll do a botch conversion after ive finished....depends on how i do at college....
